Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
Does Michael Caine need another house?

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
I had to google this to find out wtf was Journey 1 before I saw the trailer...this is the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth.

"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
It would've been funnier if The Rock said he'd rather fly on United 93 than get on the Titanic. The Rock is usually the best part of the <s>shit</s> films he acts in, but holy fuck, this looks horrendous. |
Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
I like The Rock and think he's done some decent movies but this looks pretty bad. I know that I (and most people in this thread) aren't the target market for this movie but still. It might partially be nostalgia but kids movies didn't seem so bad when I was growing up.

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
Is this movie in 3D? Because I want to see the Rock in 3D flying on top of the bumblebee

No Nemo I suppose?

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
Who is choosing the Rock's roles? He should fire whoever it is. If it's himself then maybe he should just try porn.

This is an older article (2009) but it talks about The Rock's strategy to build himself as a star of kids films

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
What's so wrong about this? It looks like fun, a perfect adventure film for the family.
I've liked most of the Rock's flicks, even the paper-thin kiddie ones. I don't know if he's got the chops to take on anything more than those, and the mindless action flicks. And Michael Caine is always a plus. |
Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
The Rock can do no wrong. NO WRONG.

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
Are there any action scripts out there in the last few years that you could picture The Rock in? They're just not there. There's the occasional Jason Statham vehicle, and Liam Neeson film (who would have said that four years ago) but nothing huge. Especially considering movies like Wanted that have "normal" actors playing action heroes. If he had come up in the 80's or 90's then that would be different. He has a good foot in the door with the Fast and Furious franchise, and these kids movies are a smart decision on his part given the climate these days.

Just saw this today. I never saw past 10 minutes of the Brendan Fraser original (meant to, but never got around to making it a priority).
Adventure, juvenile humor, and show-off 3D effects will probably make this a box-office success. I actually give it credit for not being as much of a constant creature-feature-chasefest as I expected. I'd give it 2.5 out of five stars. |

Do they mention the Brendan Fraser character at all, since Josh Hutcherson played his nephew in the first?

I enjoyed this one. It's silly, but fun, and as a Jules Verne fan I liked seeing the references to the books.

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
I've enjoyed The Rock's performances, even in the kiddie movies. There isn't a chance I would see this in the theater, especially in 3D, but I'll check it out at home sometime.

Re: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgen)
Absolutely horrific. There was no movie here, just a bunch of disconnected scenes that were just stupid. I think back to when I was a kid and saw Mysterious Island and Journey to the Center of the Earth and I weep for what passes as family entertainment today. The ugly guy was asinine in his constant whinging. The Rock seemed like he was just reading a script. The 2 kids had zero chemistry. And the monsters were all lame. One of the worst I have seen in a while and I saw Atlas Shrugged.
