Kind of wondering where this series is supposed to end. Will we see the arrival of the ship carrying whomever is the equivalent of Taylor?

Maybe we'll see it end where they fully rule the world?

Possibly. This is not the same timeline as the ones in the 60s/70s. The apocalypse in that was caused by a nuclear war.

Yeah. I really don't remember wtf happened in those after the whole man destroying itself. It's been a while.

It was mentioned in Rise that the Icarus is either lost or launched in space, I don't remember which because I hated the film for not making up its mind whether it was a reboot or it was to have continuity, wanted both worlds but screws it big time.

I have to say (again), the make up and the uniforms were most of the fun in the original series for me. I will see this one, but am not excited by it.

It might be the Icarus but it's not the same Icarus as the original. There's no way they could be watching Charlton Heston movies in a world where he's playing a character.

So would it be too much to guess that Caesar is offed in this one, and the next film will introduce Cornelius...or do you think Caesar gets a trilogy?

I'd hope a trilogy. Serkis is amazing and I loved his Caesar.

So since this is a reboot of the whole Apes franchise... Someone remind me wtf happens to Caesar once he takes lead of Ape kind. seriously can't remember what happens after that part in the original series.

I seriously can't believe how much mileage Fox has gotten out of this franchise.

Rise was so much better than it should have been.

For me it was a glass half full of extremes. A lot of cliche but a lot good stuff too. Serkis was solid. I'm really excited to see wtf Reeves does with this. He's a much better director than the previous fellow.

He stops a low budget war between humans and apes. Then there's a flashforward showing human and ape children attending school together and hearing Caesar's legend. Cut to a statue of Caesar with a tear rolling down his face.

Of course that's a different Caesar from the one in Rise and Dawn. The original series Caesar is the son of Zira and Cornelius after they travel back in time, and there are enough differences between events in Conquest and Battle and what we learned of ape history in the earlier movies to suggest that Zira and Cornelius altered history by their presence. In that case the statue of Caesar might be weeping for joy that the world of the first movie has been averted.

It was one of the pleasant surprises of a few years ago...even die-hards were expecting something lame.

I rewatched the original series recently, and was surprised how strong Conquest was and how incredibly weak Battle was. Don't know if it was losing Paul Dehn or the budget cuts or what, but it was a weak ending.

The uncut version of Conquest with the original ending is especially strong! I would of been traumatized if I had watched it as a kid.

I liked the original films a lot, although my favorite aspects were the sci-fi space and time travel, and the weird ape culture---which is probably why I like Burton's film more than most do.

I thought "Rise" was okay, and the trailer for the new one has me interested.

Can we give Serkis as special achievement award already? I hope he gets paid big time for motion capture.

I've always been amazed that the Ape films were considered family entertainment. The original's ending was pretty shocking, but Beneath is just about the most nihilistic thing I've ever seen. I mean, there are plenty of movies where the world gets destroyed, but that's the only one I've seen where the freakin' hero decides to blow it up. And then Escape kills off the only two truly likeable characters in the series.

I can't imagine how up-in-arms parents would be if those films were made today.

And if I remember correctly--I saw them all when they originally opened--they were all rated G!

P.S. I just checked: CONQUEST was the first of the Apes films to be rated PG. Back then, of course, kids went to these films without their parents. And didn't tell them much when they got home.

I would love to see the apes get to be as advanced as the book, cartoon series, and even the walberg version.

I've never read the book but its in my long ass list of books to get to. They went crazy advanced in that one.

Never saw the cartoon. So what'd they do there?

I did actually like the apes in the Burton film. Jesus... Rick Baker went all out on that one. Amazing work from him.

Saying that about Baker... Cuz it was amazing. I actually prefer the way they're doing them now. They have much better scale in size than in the original. Which has always bugged me even as a kid. That and Serkis... He is an amazing actor with this equipment.

The Baker makeup in the Burton version is breathtaking, but it's unfortunately in the service of a terrible movie.
