I'm behind on news regarding this film. Did Franco not return?

Fox's official synopsis:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

****************************************************

:reads synopsis:

:checks title:

I think I have a guess who emerges victorious here.

Why didn't they want him back?

At least I'm glad to see they kept Serkis.

re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Reeves, 2014) S:Serkis, Oldman

I guess his character wasn't necessary for where the store went.

Franco told MTV News that there were early plans for him to have a small role in the sequel, but things changed after director Rupert Wyatt dropped off the project.

I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like [former Fox co-chairman] Tom Rothman who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. My guess is I won’t be in it. Nobody’s talked to me since Rupert left.

Interesting. Shame he wont have a cameo. So who's the director now?

Matt Reeves of Let Me In and Cloverfield fame. Hence why Felicity is there.

Ah. Never saw either of those films. Is he a good fit to direct this?

Both films are good, and "Let me in" is actually truer to the novel that the films are based on (which you obviously haven't read), so I'm not sure what you're "fixing."

The original is foreign so it's inherently better than anything made in the United States. Duh...

I saw Let The Right One In and was bored to tears. So I ignored the remake. I dunno why I've never bothered with Cloverfield.

You'll love it. Its about these two teens and their quest to find a 4-leafed clover in a field.

As long as it's not done in a style of having found some footage of events that have already occurred. I think that's called cam style.

He's fixing the recommendation of watching Let Me In by swapping it with the superior Let the Right One In. You're aware that just because a movie is more true to the source that it's not automatically better, right? That movies and novels are two seperate things?

Let Me In has some fantastic film making in it. Check it out if you never have. Posted this earlier in the thread, pretty good deconstruction of a well done scene from the flick: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/11409045-post64.html

Damn man, you are missing out on 2 amazing movies.
I do wonder though, since I have never rewatched cloverfield at home, if it loses some of it's impact by not seeing it on the big screen.
