Matt Reeves and Jeff Nichols are fantastic picks. Give it to Evan Glodell, you know that kid would bust his ass to make an impression. May turn out disastrous but not without a lot of effort behind it
. Jeff Nichols is great as introspective, Reeves has some of the best scene composition this side of Alfonso Cuarón.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has a great visual style but isn't a great storyteller with the lense. Not sure what to expect from Blakeson, I guess the apes will start making out at some point?

Matt Reeves and Jeff Nichols are inspired choices, but I hope they get to have their take at the script before going into production. With the regime changing at Fox, I'm hoping the executives will be more relaxed than Tom Rothman constantly shitting all over anyone with a decent idea.

I was joking with Evan Glodell, the guy has nowhere near the experience to handle a $100m+ feature.
I think Reeves and Nichols could, but agree they should have script access beforehand.

Was Wyatt involved in scripting as well? I'm all for a new director putting his spin on things, but if there's already a good script in place then meddling with it may not be a warranted.

well the last one had an ok script. And if that's what passes as a standard for quality...I think having someone w/ quality logic in writing....who is also directing it...has to be better. It was a husband and wife team that wrote it, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
It had a lot of stuff going for it but then you had stuff like the gf who...really doesn't mean much if anything to the plot. Sure she had to check up on Caesar and it leads to her getting w/ Will but...worthless character. She wasn't bad..just...well...she had no purpose in the plot to matter. Also the guys at the shelter..even Cox's character (I LOVE Brian Cox) was generic...no too generic cuz it's Brian Fucking Cox doing it but..it's a weak character. The emotion coming from the dad and his problem..just hit generic tendency in emotion.
Tighten the script, keep or add shit that really matters to the plot, fine tune..fine tune...and fine tune till it's solid.

Good point. There were some elements from the last film that could've gone away, or needed to be expanded upon. I think this needs a good collaborative director. Someone who can work with the current duo, versus taking control of the project.

It wasn't a bad script, not at all. Just one that had much promise but didn't go there. A lot of good set ups though.
I really enjoyed seeing it for sure. Enjoy more in seeing it by taking a 10yr old who only knows of PoTA, but never seen it, and seeing his revelation when Caesar speaks. That's a good moment, slightly weak by the guy in there but...Caesar was rocking it.

I thought Rise was superb, so I was hoping Wyatt would return. However, Reeves is an excellent replacement choice. Cloverfield rocked and I loved Let Me In.

Solid choice, kudos to Fox for going with someone who might actually put a nice stamp on this one!

Cloverfield is a guilty pleasure. Didn't care for Let Me In, but it was directed really well. The original stand alone, though.

Of all their possible choices, I was hoping Reeves would get the gig. I never saw Let Me In (no interest, really), but I dug Cloverfield, and I think he can deliver here.

Decent choice, hope it works. Glad they didn't pull a Universal and put someone with zero experience in charge of a multi-million $$$ production.

Let Me In solidified Reeves as a quality director in my book. I thought Cloverfield was really entertaining, but there was a lot of push from JJ Abrams and company on that flick. Reeves took what could have been a scene for scene remake of Let The Right One In and put in several scenes that were very distinctive to this version.

Mark Bomback Will Write ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’
Mark Bomback isn’t exactly a household name — close to zero screenwriters get that sort of clout — but he’s certainly dipped his hand into some big name projects.
He’s the writer behind Live Free or Die Hard, Unstoppable, the Total Recall remake, the upcoming The Wolverine, and he even did uncredited rewrites on Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Now he’s doing the next installment in the monkey melee series.
He’s signed on to write Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield).
I hope Bomback remembers what made Rise work so damn well: the empathetic nature of Caesar as played by Andy Serkis.
And also all those apes throwing dangerous shit at stupid humans.

I wonder if they're planning an arc for a trilogy or if they're doing it like the originals and just doing whatever works and picking up sequels from there.

I'd hope this was better planned than the originals. So far while the 1st one was a bit weak here and there it was very entertaining. Love me some Serkis.
