Todd Phillips' found footage teen sex comedy: Project X (Nourizadeh, 2012)
I swear we had a thread on this. Maybe I'm imagining it, but since the teaser trailer is out:
<object width="853" height="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ecLYhvu_WQY?version=3&hl=en_US&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ecLYhvu_WQY?version=3&hl=en_US&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="853" height="480" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
To catch people up to speed:
For a teaser trailer, it does its job. However, the last fifteen seconds are what has sold me (besides the amazing premise). A teen sex comedy with a flamethrower, the neighborhood on fire and a SWAT team in riot gear? Count me in.

To catch people up to speed:
- The film is presented via found footage (i.e. The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity).
- The film has a cast of absolute unknown actors who auditioned for the film through the film's website.
- Phillips and Silver have already admitted this film will be pushing the R-rating to its limit. All of the actors had to sign a nudity clause in their contracts.

So we've got this, Amber Alert, the superhero movie... any other found footage ones I'm missing?

Is this movie supposed to be funny or is it just gonna be a titty and ass movie? I can watch hardcore porn on the internet any time I want so I have no interest in an unfunny movie with a lot of nudity.

The original had monkeys and Matthew Broderick- this looks nothing like that.

A lot of the exterior scenes were filmed on the WB lot and a buddy of mine works right down the 'street' from this house. Since they filmed most of it at night, he said it was wild to come in every day and see the progressive, destructive changes to the neighborhood. One day he saw the trees had tp in them. Then there was more trash everywhere. The next day a lamp post was knocked over. Then a car was upside down. The next day that car was burnt to a crisp. Then there were armored vehicles on the street and more cars had been blown up.

It looks plenty stupid to me. I don't hate found footage movies, but a house party comedy? No thanks.

There is one just called "The Tapes", The Tunnel, The third and 4th Rec movies, Atrocious, and one of the better ones to come out of late is called Grave Encounters.

Loosely based on this kids out of control party.

Speaking of found footage movies, I really liked Man Bites Dog. I almost wish that movie would be chosen for an American remake. I think it had a great premise that could easily be expanded on.
But watching a bunch of assholes party? Seriously?

I played exactly 9 seconds of that. Once I saw the douchebag without the shirt and parka on nothing he said would matter after that.

I don't understand why you guys here are trashing this movie, its actually really good. The kid in the movie who throws the house party is nothing like the douchebag in that video.

What's your definition of really good? Nothing I've seen in trailers or TV spots indicate really good, or even good for that matter. It looks like it's going for the raunch factor and that's about it.

Here's a bit from a review over at HitFix that sounds promising to me:
"What's really impressive about the work that Nourizadeh does here is that there are long hypnotic stretches of the film where it feels like a documentary, like you're lost at this crazy Altamont of house parties. And then you're watching a scene, something staged, something with character arcs built in, and then suddenly you're back in what feels like real chaos, like something dangerous. Ken Seng's cinematography and Jeff Groth's editing lend an epic touch to the proceedings, and it's impressive seeing how they carve this narrative out of the oh-my-god madness of the five-week shoot for the party. The film can be fairly one-note and linear, and you may get tired of the bad behavior on display well before the characters onscreen do, but I like the young performers, and more than that, it feels to me like this is a funny way of taking familiar tropes to an almost unnervingly R-rated end.
Ultimately it's all about boy-chasing-girl, about as old a teenage movie trope as there is, but it's done with a certain dark majesty, an aggressive sense of brutal humor. I ultimately liked "Project X," and while I don't think it's a deep experience, it's an authentic experience, and I respect that about it. It's almost aggressively anti-movie in any conventional sense, and that's part of what I enjoyed about it. "Project X" barely plays by any rules, down to that title that tells you nothing about the film, and in the end, while it has a conservative heart, the film delivers on its premise at a volume that… yes… shocked me."

Re: Todd Phillips' found footage teen sex comedy: Project X (Nourizadeh, 2012)
^^^^well I knew going into it when i saw it last thursday, that its a teen house party movie. The found footage idea is pretty cool approach to the same old teen party film. The only actor i recognized was the kid from the footloose remake, everyone else is completely unknown. All the jokes are pretty raunchy, but its full of drinking, drugs, and plenty of nudity. The kid Thomas who throws the party kind of evolves from being the shy nerdy kid to stud by the end. Trust me its a fun time, and the soundtrack is really good too. I don't really want to spoil anything else.

Re: Todd Phillips' found footage teen sex comedy: Project X (Nourizadeh, 2012)
Saw this on Tuesday, really had no interest beforehand based on the trailer/tv spots. I'd say it was just mediocre, had some funny gags and does provide the t and a a movie like this should have. Once they completely ratcheted up the craziness of the party near the end I was over it. There are a lot of really dumb scenes and nonsense by the characters, and the best friend character annoyed the hell out of me.
There are about 4 different short "whoa crazy party" montages in it. No real plot, just the basic (veryyy basic) kid likes girl story. It wasn't even necessary really, the movie could have been 75 minutes instead of 90 and probably been a little better. If the previews interested you you'll probably enjoy the movie, as it is exactly as advertised I'd say. I just wasn't that into it and the good was outweighed by the bad/stupid.

I finally saw an ad for this and if I was a wealthy man, I'd have broken my TV out of sheer frustration for the stupidity that grazed my eyes. This pile of crap looks like outtakes from every awful late90s/early00s teen comedy.

granted it's not made for critics, but the Post review gave the film no stars - no surprise there - regardless, this movie looks really really dumb and pointless.
