It was, especially as it progressed.

It was silly but I accepted most of the action scenes except where

Spoiler:
the characters were in the car and no one got hurt even though they were shot at a million times...

That's my reservation as well. I know what I'm seeing is a watered down version of what I saw several years ago. Where there was actually blood and stuff when people got hit with bullets.

As someone who has:
  1. Seen the original District B13.
  2. Just saw The Raid 2 for a second time earlier in the week.
  3. Saw Brick Mansions last night.
I can attest to this film being a piece of shit.

To be fair, if the film is released by Relativity, it must be shit.

And Don Jon, 3:10 to Yuma, Hellboy 2, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and some more.

Granted... Some are co productions. But mostly... They're iffy.

I don't think good when I think of them. I think mediocre.

I'll give you Haywire, but not Immortals.

In a lot of those instances (e.g. 3:10 to Yuma, Hellboy, Scott Pilgrim, etc), they acted as the financer and had no control over the film itself. They simply supplied the money to get the film made. They've been Universal's go-to financier for quite a few years. When Universal was hard up for cash, they sold them the entire Rogue label directly to them to start distributing their own content. That only lasted for so long (because My Soul To Take and Skyline were the cinematic equivalents of an abortion) until they went back to calling themselves Relativity.

Don Jon, like most of their films, was a pickup and simply just distributed by the studio. That's why Relativity is still around as a distributor despite most of their releases being bombs and disappointments. They've invested very little (financially) into these releases... as you can tell by the quality of their slate.

I agree with everything except Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. That was a piece of shit.

SPvsTW was a solid flick. Really well made.

Why don't you think it's good?

I found it obnoxious and not even remotely funny (even though the laughs they were aiming for were clear). It made it a tedious experience for me. I tried watching it a few other times to see if I'd get into it but I always find myself detesting every second of it.

I'll buy a ticket to Brick Mansions and buy the Blu-ray the day it's released on the condition that everyone in the world agrees to never again refer to District 13 as District B13.

Pisses me off every time I see it. They essentially changed the title to District District 13.

Well if you're gonna be that picky, you should actually insist everyone call it Suburb 13.

Re: Brick Mansions (remake of Banlieue 13/District B13) S: Paul Walker

Watched the Unrated version tonight on the Blu-Ray I rented. Doesn't officially come out until the 9th, but my local store got it early. Ran about 10 minutes longer and you can definitely see this was shot as an R rated movie, but was edited down. It's a pretty gritty and violent movie.

I was pleasantly surprised. This movie was a lot of fun. Lots of action, good fight scenes and had a little humor as well. Walker and Belle had good chemistry and RZA was a fun villain. Walker surprised me here. He really showed a lot of physicality in this. The Parkour and stunt work was pretty amazing.

Very watchable. I'd definitely recommend renting this if you're a fan of Walker or Luc Besson's work. The 100 minutes flies by. I thought the pacing was great and the movie just keeps moving.

It's give this 3 1/2 stars or a B
