Brick Mansions (remake of Banlieue 13/District B13) S: Paul Walker

Holy cow. That almost looked like an exact remake with nothing changed. Heck, they even have one of the same leads from the original as a lead. Ah hell I'll see it anyway. Wish they brought back the hot sister from the first though.

The international trailer makes it seem like an almost shot-for-shot remake of the first. The US trailer reveals that they merged the plot of the first film with set pieces from the sequel. Unless you're the kind of person that is violently allergic to subtitles, I can't say I see the point to this remake.

But seriously I really doubt many people know about the originals here in the US. If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't.

Subtitles man? I don't go to the movies to read! Next thing you'll be telling me I have to go to the movies to think! It's like these martial arts movies man! The plots are so hard to figure out! Two guys beating each other up? It hurts my brain man!

Just noticed that the original films are on Amazon Instant Video, free with prime. So for those that haven't seen them... Check them out.

The action choreography looks exactly the same; especially the scene where those dudes break in to Belle's apartment.

Loved the original, lots of non-stop action. Will most likely see this one out of respect for Paul Walker and because I have Movie Pass.
Glad to see they kept Yeti, even if he's a bit more muscular.

Isn't the new Yeti the big guy that fought Robert Downey, Jr. in Sherlock Holmes?

looks like a good Netflix rental with a big bowl of popcorn. I always liked Paul Walker... most of his movies were fluff but always entertaining.

Went tonight and had a good time with it. Was thoroughly entertained and enjoyed RZA's character. Full YouTube review below:

Walker, Belle and RZA have some good chemistry together, which adds to the fun of the pic -- it even helps make the dialog more palatable. Because it's all very campy: the dialog, the action, the whole package. It doesn't measure up to Banlieue 13, but as a standalone film, it is a decent thrill ride. At the very least, it reminds us why Walker was so well liked as an action lead.

Thanks! I'm really glad to hear the positive feedback. I've been toiling away at it for months and months now out of pure passion. Looking forward to publishing my 100th review within the next couple of months.

That's good to hear they kept the campiness of the original intact at least.

I'll be skipping Brick Mansions. Why settle for a PG-13 remake when I can watch the first two original films in all their R rated glory?
