Puss in Boots

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=13885

He (Antonio Banderas) added that "We will have the ['Puss in Boots' spinoff] movie — it is interesting to do a movie only with the character — called 'Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer.' It would be between the third and the fourth 'Shrek.' And in the fourth 'Shrek,' I think, I'm going to play two characters: I'm going to play Puss in Boots and his badass brother. So I will have to invent another voice for him."
It also talks about Shrek 3 (May 18, 2007) & 4 but the big news here to me is about Puss in Boots. From the moment I saw Puss in Boots in the teaser trailer, I just knew that he'd one day star in his own movie. :D

Awesome! I loved Shrek 2 but Puss stole the show.

PopcornTreeCt 03-31-06 12:50 AM

Sounds good.

Puss in Boots rocks.....

This is going to be good!

Groucho 03-31-06 09:47 AM

Banderas can do multiple voices?

GoldenJCJ 03-31-06 07:39 PM

What are we up to now 6 Shrek films?!

I liked Puss in Boots as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure he can pull off an entire movie.

He was perfect in Shrek 2 because he left the audience wanting more.

That being said, a Shrek movie without Shrek could be OK in my book.

kvrdave 04-01-06 12:00 AM

Shrek?
For you I could be.

I would love to see it. :)

Puss in Boots was great as a support ... hopefully that'll stay true with this film. Now, to get Scrat from Ice Age in his own film ... :D

I agree completely. The best parts from both movies.

Mr. Cinema 04-02-06 07:47 AM

The only thing I liked about Shrek 2 was Puss in Boots, so this is good news.

grim_tales 04-02-06 12:42 PM

Puss In Boots was great, he stole the entire film (Shrek 2) IMO :D

Puss In Boots (2011)

Saw this today at a free 3D IMAX screening. Cute take on PiB's origins, and his friendship with Humpty Dumpty. Without spoiling too much, this takes place way before Shrek, and plays more like a spaghetti western in parts than a fairy tale romp, although the mix of fairy tale and real was surreal. No pop references, although there is one sly pot reference about 3/4 of the way through. I enjoyed it, but I would likely have waited til video to see it if I had not gotten a free pass.

Cool. I've been looking forward to this. Reading it plays like a spaghetti western has me even more interested.

the trailers for this look hysterical - looking forward to seeing it.

this was insanely fun - and in IMAX-3D the animation and particularily the action scenes are dizzying (to excellent effect) whether running on the roofs, or flying in the air on the bean stalk - the use of motion and the extra dimension make this exhilarating. I also thought the use of the split screen effect was great and added humor to one scene in particular. As N2DVD pointed out the pop humour references are mercilessly kept at bay (
Spoiler:
'The Bean Club'
;) ) - something that the Shrek movies were notorious in inflicting it's audience with.

I saw it in 2D and you can easily tell this movie was made in mind for 3D. I had moviecash which was basically the only reason I saw it. The character of Puss was just OK as was the movie. The cat references usually brought a chuckle and I'm sure cat lovers would love the movie.

Horrible movie. It was an incredibly insipid comedy based around a character that's just a cheap Inigo Montoya impression running for 90 minutes. Nothing original and nothing funny. I didn't laugh once and winced at every single joke. What a terrible movie.

Re: Puss In Boots (2011)

Granted, I like cats, and I liked the character of Puss In Boots from the Shrek movies, so I was pre-disposed to enjoy this full-length feature of Puss In Boots, and I saw it in 3D as well.

The first 20 minutes are really entertaining, then it hits a bit of a lull as Puss reveals his origin and his relation to Humpty Dumpty, and then it's off on the main plot of the film that involves magic beans, giant bean stalks, castles in the sky, etc. They made good use of the 3D for many kinetic scenes featuring running, jumping, sliding, and flying.

What I find really funny is how Puss reacts when he's scared or surprised, he reacts just like a real cat, and his reactions just slay me, it's a small detail, but appreciated. There are some fun dance sequences, and Antonio Banderas has a lot of fun voicing Puss In Boots.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B. I'd grade it higher if I wasn't weirded out by the sight of Humpty Dumpty looking like Steve-O from Jackass.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. It's funny, and the animation was well done. 3D was well done, though not surprising since its animated. We're both cat lovers so I'm sure this contributed to our enjoyment of the movie (Puss being totally distracted by the reflected dot of light, lapping the milk, etc.)

Re: Puss In Boots (2011)

Saw this today and was pretty much underwhelmed. My wife wanted to see it and was going to go alone. I should have let her. I dozed off a couple times. There were definitely some cute moments and a couple laughs but it felt more like a subplot from the Shrek movies stretched into a feature film. The only saving grace was the box office guy was a friend of my daughters so he gave us a free ticket with one purchased, so at least I was only out $5. I can't stand 3D so this was in 2D. Maybe this was one of those that can't stand on their own in 2D? I give it a C-
