I know what you mean, but I still think it's funny to think of the concept as a realistic relationship :)

I used to think the same way but I saw this again about a month ago and realized how unrealistic it actually is....

Spoiler:
Not only the end that was mentioned earlier in this thread but also how unbelievably upset he got when he learned about her past. It's one thing to be taken aback by such news but to completely end the relationship just isn't something most adults would do. Assuming of course that he can trust her not to cheat. But if it's just history, most people let that go.

I'll echo 500 Days of Summer. It shows a realistic relationship between people in their 20's.

And not that I'm there yet so I can't say for sure but The Last Kiss was the same except with characters in their 30's.

The relationship that we only got a glimpse of between Peter and Sarah in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was pretty realistic as well.

No love for Forgetting Sarah Marshall? I know it's a comedy but the flashbacks to the prior relationship and their change in tone as he starts falling for Kunis' character are pretty well done.

I know this may sound like a stupid suggestion, but I always appreciated the realism of the George/Mary relationship in It's a Wonderful Life. For a 1940s film, it shows some of the realistic troubles that normal relationships go through.

I've always loved how much of a jerk George Bailey is in some scenes... especially for a movie of that time period, it seems very edgy to me.

Oh, and Donna Reed is smoking hot

Absolutely. For the audience to accept the fantasy elements--Clarence the Angel and George's trip into an alternate universe--there has to be a strong, dramatic, realistic underpinning. And that's why this film has worked for 65 years.

It's TV. But Curb Your Enthusiasm is a good one. Minus the divorce stuff, they actually remind me a lot of my parents (some minor quips, but nobody was ever really mad at each other, everything ended up being friendly). I only watch the first two seasons, though.

I know they're an older couple but I always liked the Hepburn/Fonda relationship in On Golden Pond.

Oddly enough, the first thing to spring to mind was Good Will Hunting.

I'm not a huge fan, but The Break Up is fairly realistic.

Spoiler:
Even though the ending was somewhat left open, the fact that they broke up and didn't get back together was realistic. Vince Vaughn's character was a super douche in that movie and there's no way in Hell he could have held on to Jennifer Aniston's character in real life. I know a lot of women do stay with complete asshole guys, but she was smokin hot, seemingly successful in her career and appeared to be quite normal. He was a fucking putz that completely torpedoed his relationship. It would have been totally unrealistic for them to suddenly get back together at the end. In reality, he figured it out too late and even though he tried to get her back, he fucked up and she checked out.

Agreed. The break up scene with Damon and Driver is painfully realistic.
