Anyone who says this looks like Transformers/Battleship/Michael Bay movies needs to go watch Ultraman or other properties that influenced this and realize you don't really know what you're talking about.
But I will admit they cut the trailers to give it that kind of vibe. And, really, why wouldn't they? TF is wildly successful, and they're aiming for the same crowd of filmgoers more or less.

Looking at that trailer one can easily tell it's a GDT flick just by some of the camera movements and that damn color palette he uses a lot. Love the yellows he always uses in his films. They're so weird in their hue but very unique as well.

I love that Idris is using his real UK accent and not some obnoxious fucked up American East Coast Accent(no offense East Coasters with obnoxious Fucked up Accents).

I love how you can tell that that thing is very Godzilla (and Kaiju, in general) inspired. Fuck. I loved me those G flicks as a kid. This film gets me all giddy.
You mean this, right?

No. It's influenced by so many things but mostly the Japanese monster flicks...now put in the same pot by a fat Mexican making sweet sweet sweaty love to it all.

Raimi got it. Dunno nothing about it after that except..that the guy that made that...is now the director of the Evil Dead remake. So I guess Raimi really really liked him.

Pretty much agree with all the above. Other than del Toro's attachment it looks like any other big budget movie that has come out like the ones listed. Does nothing for me. I will probably see it but I have no idea what is giving everyone wood and making them fap to this. Go Monsters and Robots!!

Del Toro gives commentary to the trailer. His child like giddyness gets me so excited.

No kidding. I'm a 40 year old and I feel like 14 watching this trailer. Very cool. Mission accomplished GDT.

Looking at the trailer again. I can't see any similarities between TF and Battleship (granted I only saw the trailers for it, not the film).
Aside from it's use of CGI. That's pretty much the only thing that they're alike in. They use a log of CGI.
It's not trying to throw itself at you to get your attention. It just will or will not get your attention w/ the subject matter.
I must say. If this is what a big budget Del Toro film looks like, I'd like to see more of it. The design work looks to be ridiculously detailed from what I can see in the production design. Add in the little nuances that those big Mechs do. $200+ million for Del Toro to play with? Jesus. I could only imagine wtf that must have been like for him as he nerded out on that shit.

Alifebythesword 19 hours ago Whoa Whoa Whoa... what if this turned out to be the Half Life/Portal Prequel. The monsters came from Portals in the pacific ocean, right? Well after this incident, what if Black Mesa and Aperture Laboratories try to replicate it? Those white "nerv" suits look like they could be made by Aperture... I think my mind would explode

You honestly might be on to something. Especially after the mention of a portal to another dimension.
What if this is actually a licensed movie?
SubstitutionRealit… and 1 more
Dude. This is exactly what Im thinking. The trailer specifically says these are 'interdimensional aliens'. . I swear if this movie ends with the introduction of a scientist named 'Gordon' or 'Dr. Freeman' I just may shit my pants and dance the happiest dance anyone ever saw at the same time.

And the portal at the bottom of the ocean was the same color as the beams of energy before the Resonance Cascade, right? This is going to be my new head-cannon, btw. I'm stealing the idea shamelessly.

Conspiracy theories aside, this one actually might hold the candle. Maybe Valve secretly on to something with del Toro all this time. This could be the secret of the decade!
cannibalcrab
speaking of NERV suits.... Im pretty sure the AI called the mechs EVAs.
and the big flying words said "we created monsters" .....
KEVLAR60442
Wait, didn't GabeN say something to the extent that if there were ever gonna be a Half Life movie, he wanted Del Toro to direct it?!?
Alifebythesword
Hmm... Interesting!

Plus, it would explain why there was the crazy MASSIVE underground science facilities underneath Aperture Laboratories. That could be where they stored/worked on em.

I....what....
I.... My brain just exploded.... It's soooo unlikely.... But what if....
brain melted....

That's some wishful thinking right there. In all seriousness, there would be no point in keeping that a secret if it were true.

That'd be intesresting but doubtful. Does anyone know where the rights to those properties are btw? That'd be a good way to start investigating.
