I am wishful that this does very well and gives him the clout he needs to get Mountains greenlit. FWIW, what killed that movie was his insistence that it carry and R rating on top of having a $150 million+ budget. He has since said he thinks he could possibly make it PG-13 as the violence would be more of a shocking nature and not a gory one.

I noticed the reporter in the video called the movie "Still Seas" and it was listed as "Still Seas" with the Toronto Film & Television Office. I guess that is the secret name of the movie they're using to throw people off.

You could probably replace the names in that synopsis and it would describe at least a dozen different anime
Not sure if thats a good thing or bad

It reminds me of Mazinger Z. I'm still totally in for this.

you're right for the most part...but then the good comes from Del Toro. He's shit tons more talented than the fucks that casually make the generic anime w/ that same plot.

This will be Kaiju with the plot of a generic anime and the style of Del Toro... I'm okay with that.

Didn't someone make a short film based on robots in Honolulu? I wonder if this was developed because of that.

The fact that there's a tentpole film, directed by del Toro, that uses the term "kaiju" in the first sentence of its synopsis gets me harder than an AP Calculus test.

Sounds like it could be terrible.
Del Toro or not, the story seems pretty stupid. When you see things like "last chance for humanity" and "washed up former pilot" that doesn't sit well with me.
Who knows what he's got up his sleeve, though. No doubt, I will give it a shot since it's Del Toro but still sounds bad.

Well that is true only to a certain degree. If you load a movie with Cliches yet provide amazing visuals it's still shit to me.
Of course, it could end up being great but a few of the things in the plot sounds really bad.

Still so much man love for del Toro? By the time this comes out, it'll be 5 years since his last movie and that was the average at best Hellboy 2.
I said this before and got ripped for it, but he's still only made 1 great movie in my opinion and that was Pan's Labyrinth. Mimic sucked and Blade 2 sucked. I can see some people being into the Hellboy movies, but I hated them and even looking at them objectively, I can't see how anybody could think either one was any better than average or maybe slightly above average. I saw The Devil's Backbone and enjoyed it, but it was nothing special.
I just don't get how this guy STILL gets so much love on the internet when he hasn't made any movie of any kind in 5 years and he's 7 years past his one and only great movie. I guess I just don't get it and probably never will.

Because he has distinctive visual stylings. Blade 2 was easily the best looking in the mediocre franchise (well, Blade 1 and 2 are mediocre, 3 is abysmal), Hellboy and Hellboy 2 had imagination out the ass, Pan's Labyrinth mixed childlike wonder with brutal gore.
I'm not his biggest fan, but I definitely can see why he has a following. He does modern creature features better than just about anyone.
