Seen this one as the Japanese & HK blu-ray (with English subs) are already available. It may come up as a bit of a disappointment after Kitano's take on the yakuza based on his past films. The characters here have no redeeming values whatsoever, all are equally corrupt and willing to kill each other at a moment's notice just to achieve further power, and one has to really pay attention to the film as it is quite detailed in how the yakuza tries to exploit everything and everyone (foreign dignitaries, cops, small-time drug dealers, casinos etc). No code is followed and loyalty is basically just a ruse.
A bit of warning though...some of the scenes are incredibly violent. There was one execution (you'll know it when you see it) that I found quite brutal but creative.

I laughed at the heavy Japanese accent pronouncing Outrage at the end.

That was funny.
Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. I picked up the blu ray while in Hong Kong last February. Well worth a look, especially for those Beat Takeshi lovers.

This movie is incredible. It is also one of the most violent movies I've seen in a while. There is one really creative killing in it that I had to watch several times to make sure I saw what I think I saw. It is that good and very good commentary on the criminal underworld.

I love Kitano, but found this to be one of his lesser movies. The movie is very violent and creative, but not as violent as some movies from the U.S. I actually found the violence to be tame at times. Movie was ok. I'd give it 2 out of four stars or a grade of C.

The sequel to this excellent film was delayed by the tsunami disaster.
According to Kitano it's supposed to resume filming this year for a Japanese release in 2012.
