Lori Petty isn't a fan of the Point Break remake.
The actress, who played Tyler in the 1991 Fox film, said of the upcoming reboot, "That's some stupid s— right there."
Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the original action film that has an FBI agent go undercover to infiltrate a crime ring of surfers also starred Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey. The Fox film grossed $83 million worldwide in 1991 and went on to become a cult classic, inspiring a live stage version in which Johnny Utah is played by an audience member in each show.
"I think it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," she told The Hollywood Reporter of the reboot at the Orange Is the New Black premiere on Thursday in New York City. "Really? Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Kathryn Bigelow — what are you gonna do? What are you thinking? Stupid!"
She knows she's not alone in her stance. "Somebody tweeted this really cute picture of me [from the film], and it said, 'What's this pig board piece of s—?' which is what I say to Keanu, but it was about the new movie. I'm like, 'Seconded,'" she said of an Instagram post she shared when the new trailer hit the web last month.
"I got a phone call from my manager: why did you diss the new Point Break? Because that's bulls—! That’s some stupid s— right there!"
Petty said she still hasn't watched the trailer for the Kurt Wimmer-directed reboot, which stars Luke Bracey as FBI Agent Johnny Utah and Edgar Ramirez as Bodhi. "It's the most beautiful movie when you look at it — she's a painter, so every frame is so beautiful. No, I can't do it."
And she still keeps production memories close to her heart. "We shot all night once, and Keanu and I were laying on the beach, watching the sun rise while drinking a bottle of Crystal. We were like, 'Dude, this is our life!'"
Warner Bros. will release Point Break on Dec. 25.

Yeah, Wimmer did work on the screenplay. Ericson Core directed it.
I swear that's a fake name.

Unless it's some meta-reference to the culture of the original film. Then it's genius.

The ultra serious tone is throwing me for a loop. The original had this loopy goofiness to it that worked. The super serious tone in spots doesn't work with ridiculous stunts.

All of the sunt work is supposed real, might make it worth viewing. The only that sucks is to see another R rated action movie become a PG 13 remake, still might check it out.

Extreme stunts in 3D are the nicest things I can say about this movie. It makes the original seem like Citizen Kane.

A friend that saw it says that Edgar Ramirez tried his best with the material. And that the stunt work was amazing.

Several of my friends know the wingsuit pilots in the movie, as well as the guys that helped film some of those sequences. Even they said to skip it.

I think Edgar Ramirez sucks pretty bad, so I wasn't surprised that his character had zero charisma. Utah also comes off extremely flat - the rest of the cast (Lindo/Winstone) are fine and the action is very entertaining but the whole reason Bigelow's movie works is because of the charisma of the leads...you believe that Bodhi could seduce Utah because he's so likeable - if this had gotten 2 better leads, it actually would have been worthwhile.

Phew. This one was a stinker. Sad, because I liked the idea of an eco-warrior and the stunts. Something with the editing. They didn't capture excitement. It was all purely functional, and didn't make me feel anything.
The point I realized I won't be connecting with anything, is when Johnny fires rounds into the air. That was fucking great in the original. Here, I felt nothing.
If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "feelingless".
I think there's some epic action movies that will be made around the eco-conscious villain. But this isn't it.

Wow was this one a serious snoozer. Thank god I watched it for free on VUDU thanks to the thread on Hot Deals. As already stated the two leads were terrible. It's amazing how far Hollywood has fallen...they have very few original ideas, making remakes that aren't anything new and updated (this one), and sequel after sequel.
If I didn't have a 7 year old I don't know if I would ever spend money on going to the theater. I just want her to have the experience of what it "can" be like.

I finally watched it and The stunt work was great. Edgar Ramirez does his best but gets dragged down due to how uninteresting the film is.

I'm trying to remember the last time I felt this bored watching an action movie....
I would love to ask my wife what she thinks, but I don't think she would here me over her snoring.
I'm tempted to cut my loses and shut it down and pop in the original.

Finally, the CGI or green screen at the end was some of the worst I've seen -- Sharknado had better graphics.

FYI
This is premiering on HBO this Saturday
For those who held out and have HBO, here's your chance to see it.
I held out because of the God awful press and reviews. Didn't even bother renting the BD when it was initially released a few months ago. Already set the DVR to see this apparent disaster.

I'll watch it on HBO GO if I'm really bored like I was when I got around seeing the last Fantastic Four (which wasn't as bad as I was expecting).
