James Dean in 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'
Hello everybody!
Next to the mention on IMDB, what proof is there really that James Dean actually played a bit part in 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'?
I have never heard or seen any proof of this.
Robert Wise also does not mention anything with regard to Dean in the audio commentary of the R1 version of this film.
Anybody?
Thank you very much!

I have no idea, but I did find out something just as mind-blowing - Jean Claude Van Damme was an extra in Breakin'. He even dances in it while wearing spandex.

Did you know Willem Defoe has a cameo in Spider-man 3? he's sitting behind Peter and Gwen at the jazz club right before the whole song and dance shindig.
Megan Fox has a bit part in Bad Boys II, although it's almost impossible to see. She plays one of the strippers, I believe.

Re: James Dean in 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'
Ok, I have the information on this.
Dean was a Soldier in the film. He had a full speaking part but it was cut because the Director, Robert Wise, felt that it was quite bad and that it threw the scene off. Wise alluded that he only got the role because he knew someone who was close to Wise who vouched for his acting abilities.
After filming the scene and seeing it in the Dailies Wise said he would rather take the risk of pissing of his friend than keep his terrible scene in the final film.
Wise alluded that Dean's characterization was confusing and the Dean's soldier seemed angry and out of place.
It was so bad he mentioned it in passing to Elia Kazan who was looking for someone for the lead role in 'East of Eden'. Elia thought it was an interesting choice to play a simple soldier so out of the way angry and discontented. He had seen him in other roles, mainly on TV, so he called Dean in and had him read for Cal Trask and loved him. The rest you can say is film history.

Sadly, Mir. Wise died in 2005. I think we should all have a moment of silence or perhaps if we are moving about today, let us stand still in honor of this great man.

So, no Dean in the film!
Did you already write a complaint to IMDB about it, or do you think they prefer Stuart Whitman's word over yours?
