I don't think it is "DOA". Everyone involved has said it is in development. They just don't have a shoot schedule at this time since principals are involved in other projects.

EXCLUSIVE: Mike Vukadinovich will rewrite Beetlejuice 2 at Warner Brothers, a project that has been long gestating as a re-pairing of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton. No deals are anywhere near done with Burton or Keaton but Deadline hears that the two — who are currently working on Dumbo at Disney — have been excited at the thought of collaborating on a sequel. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions would produce this one.
The original Beetlejuice was directed by Burton in 1988 and has become a cult favorite. In fact, it was recently re-released and is playing in two theaters in Los Angeles now. Released by Warner Bros., the fantasy comedy starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as ghosts who haunt their old home. When a little girl (Winona Ryder) accidentally unleashes a mischievous ghost (Keaton), the ghosts try to drive the homeowners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) out of the house.
Vukadinovich’s most recent film work is Rememory, a science-fiction drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was acquired by Lionsgate. Based on his original screenplay, that project stars Peter Dinklage and Julie Ormond. He also wrote Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, based on the Disneyland ride, for Disney with Justin Springer producing and Pete Candeland attached to direct. We see that he also wrote for the upcoming season of Marvel’s Runaways for Hulu, ABC Studios, and Josh Schwartz, and co-wrote the pilot Horrorstory with Josh Schwartz at Fox, and Gail Berman and Charlie Kaufman executive producing.
Vukadinovich is repped by VERVE, Industry Entertainment, and McKuin Frankel.

Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice' Sequel Reportedly Scrapped
I'm kinda glad this will probably not happen.
At the premiere of Burton's Dumbo, which also stars Keaton, USA Today asked the filmmaker what was happening with the reported sequel, to which he replied, "Nothing, nothing." When asked if anything would ever happen, Burton noted, "I don't know. I doubt it."
The outlet reached out to Warner Bros. directly to get a comment from studio spokeswoman Candice McDonough, who noted that "the project isn’t in active development."

It looks like it's officially showtime for the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel. On Monday, new reporting from The Ankler's Hollywood Transom newsletter revealed that Plan B Entertainment, inc. — the award-winning production company associated with actor Brad Pitt — is lined up to produce Beetlejuice 2. Both Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are expected to reprise their roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz, respectively. The project could reportedly film as early as summer 2022. Plan B has produced a number of key films over the years, including Oscar winners Moonlight, The Departed, and 12 Years a Slave.
Reports and rumors surrounding a second Beetlejuice film have been swirling for years, but never seemed to fully come to fruition.

On one hand, that's super on-the-nose casting. On the other, sign me the fuck up!

I really don't get the Jenna Ortega love fest. I mean, good for her and all, but I don't see why everyone thinks she's so special.
As for Beetlejuice 2, despite wanting this to happen for decades, I'm afraid the end result won't live up to so much anticipation.

I really wish they wouldn't do this. Beetlejuice is such a fun, creepy, loveable, perverted asshole that its amazing that they hit things just right for him to be all of those things once and I'd be shocked if they do it again.

Here we go again. Like "The Goonies", this sequel is never going to happen. And at this point, it shouldn't. Can we please just let it go? Also, I was telling friends earlier today how tired I was of seeing Jenna Ortega everywhere in my entertainment news feeds. And one of my friends said it best "She’s just the “it” ingenue right now. Unless she wows people soon, she’ll be forgotten soon enough."

I don't think it'll ruin the original but I will see it no matter how bad it is and I don't enjoy watching bad movies. I hope I'm wrong. FYI I don't often feel this way about sequels but the Beetlejuice character just shouldn't work but does in that movie so well.

Curious: Did you see the musical? I was upset I missed it on Broadway. I am curious if they toned down the character for that. Bet they did

Production is hoping for a late May or early June shoot in London, but budget has not been set, resulting in a back and forth.

Beetlejuice is one of my favorite movies, I think some people just want it to remain that memory we have of it without it re-entering modern "pop culture"
On the other hand, I'd love to see Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Wynona Rider and Jenna Ortega in a movie together.

Although I'd love to see a Beetlejuice sequel, I can understand why a lot of you would rather not as the majority of these highly anticipated sequels end up falling into the abyss of forgotten subar sequels... like these:
Coming 2 America
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
Bill & Ted Face the Music
Pee-Wee's Big Holiday
Terminator: Genisys
Cleks III
Bad Santa 2
The Matrix Resurrections
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Rambo: Last Blood (Which I kind of enjoyed)
... and although not a sequel, let's not forget The Many Saints of Newark.
Top Gun: Maverick is the exception.
