Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release THE RAID: REDEMPTION on Blu-ray and DVD on AUGUST 14th. The Gareth Evans-directed actionfest stars Iko Uwais, Ananda George, Ray Sahetapy, Donny Alamsyah and Pierre Gruno.
Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst criminals to survive their mission.
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.
Supplements will include:
- Commentary with writer/director Gareth Evans
- Video blogs
- 5 Behind-the-scenes featurettes
- An Evening with Gareth Evans
- Mike Shinoda, Joe Trapanese conversation
- In Conversation with Gareth Evans and Mike Shinoda
- Claycat's The Raid, and The Raid TV show ad (circa 1994)
- An Ultraviolet Digital Copy.

Very awesome that Claycat's The raid is in there. It's a fun little piece. Also yay for a commentary. i guess we won't get the original music track for the film? i honestly don't think it could be better than what we got, cuz it's badass, but I wanted it merely out of curiosity.
I've no idea wtf The raid tv show ad (circa 1994) is.

per the imdb boards, the R rated redemption version had a greyish/green tint to some of the more violent scenes, while the original cut is a more realistic dark red. so hopefully that version ends up being the "unrated" version. Also the back of the Blu confirms that the original music track will be included as a bonus

According to Play it has both U.S. and original cut but doesn't say if it's region free. If I remember correctly I don't think they ship to the U.S.

I am a little torn after watching via the PS3 rental last night...while I thought it was pretty good overall. I had a huge problem with the final fight between the 3 guys. It was way to long and I actually found myself bored with it. It should have been trimmed by a few minutes. And the whole
bugged me as well.
Good action but I was more impressed with District 13 after that one was hyped to hell as well.
I am glad I didn't blind buy it though. I can't see myself ever watching it again.

I'm waiting to get the Play.com exclusive steelbook^
I found out that Play does not ship to the U.S., so a friend offered to scoop one up and ship it to me from the UK. It'll be about 30 U.S. dollars.

Just watched it. As impressive as the gunfight sequences are, it's the hand to hand fights, especially the 3-way battle with Mad Dog. I haven't seen that much ownage dished out since Jackie Chan and Benny Urquidez beat the snot out of each other. The recovery speed of the fighters is a bit ridiculous, of course, but there is no denying the fight scenes. These guys are all going places. Hopefully Hong Kong.

I really wonder how the HK industry reacted to this. Essentially doing what they've failed to do w/ so many films. I mean...the quality of HK action films is very low. It's not even the talent at fault. It's the filmmakers. A white guy essentially created a damn fine HK action film...in Indonesia. That's like a bitch slap to them. A white guy did what so many have failed to do right. Who do we have? Yen for the most part creating quality films now? Yen and Yip w/ some other filnms sprinkled in?
I easily await what Evans does next and wish the for him. I don't know how.a sequel would work...but...keep a lean story that propels the ass kicking well and I'm good.

I bought the BD to this during the sales at Amazon last month. $5.99... totally worth it.
I already really dug the film. That's nothing special. I just opened it and I decided to listen the original music to it. To compare to the Shinoda track.
I think Shinoda had the best work for it. That doesn't devalue the original score but Shinoda's gives the film a massive flow and life to it. The original music is grungier and dirty. It fits it but it is rather generic in a way. I love that the BD has both tracks. That's cool.
What were your thoughts on this film's two tracks?
