Re: Movies With Scores Composed By Musicians, NOT Composers
Joe Strummer - Walker
Oscar Peterson - The Silent Partner
Mark Knopfler - Local Hero
Tom Waits - One from the Heart
George Harrison - Wonderwall
Miles Davis - Elevator to the Gallows
David Byrne - Married to the Mob
Larry Adler - Genevieve
A number of people started out as (or remained) performers but have scored so many films, or composed other music for TV, the stage, etc., that they probably don't count for this thread:
Ryuichi Sakamoto
Randy Newman
Ry Cooder
Danny Elfman
Brian Eno
Ravi Shankar

Clint Mansell started in a band (Pop will eat itself) but now appears to be a full time composer.
There Will Be Blood was the first to come to mind for me as well.

since people posting here are being inconsistent in which comes first, film title / artist, artist / film title I'll do the former:
Tekkonkonreet: Plaid
Batman: Prince
The Guard: Calexico

Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo fame) did the composing for almost all of Wes Anderson's films (Bottle Rocket; Rushmore; Royal Tenenbaums; etc.) Excellent stuff.
Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) has done several, as well, including The Princess Bride.

For some, I would argue:
Goblin: Doesn't count as their discography contains far more scores to actual albums. They're far more associated with Dario Argento than the, what, three or four albums they have actually put out on their own in the past forty years? It doesn't help that Claudio Simonetti, Goblin's keyboardist, is more known for his scoring works than his actual work in Goblin.
Jon Brion: While his career is actually that of a music producer, I feel he's done more scores (eleven) that might disqualify him from this list. On a personal note, I actually prefer his producing and solo work more than the scores he's put out. Outside of the P.T. Anderson films and I Heart Huckabees, his scores... suck.
Mark Mothersbaugh: Was a musician, but now is a full time composer for numerous films and television shows. Doesn't count.

Duke Ellington probably doesn't qualify for Anatomy of a Murder since he was a composer, albeit a performing jazz composer and not for film

Since he is a composer , I don't know if Woljick Killar (sp?) on Bram Stoker's Dracula counts. I just think I remember reading that he was a composer of regular music and not for movie scores.
