Yeah, I don't remember Stewart being received all that well. My money would be on Crystal or Steve Martin.

I don't give a fuck who it is...just get better writers for the jokes..cuz they all suck for hte most part. Get Ricky Gervais...he was funny. A bit....hard on whomever he picked but funny as fuck.

I'm guessing Billy Crystal might be the ONLY answer for the Academy at this stage of the game (they only have three months!). And that would be a good thing.

How about trying to not make it entertaining at all and just have no host. Just read the nominees, announce the winner(s) and get off the stage. Then it won't be 3+ hours of crap.

+1

Either that, or get Charlie Sheen to host.

You know, I kinda liked it when the Golden Globes had to be canceled because of the writers' strike and they just had two people announcing the winners. I guess I'd miss the speeches, but that's about it.

Eddie Murphy is an idiot. Taking the side of douchebag Ratner? Idiot.

What about the second time? Stewart has hosted twice and served his purpose well both times, I thought. I also thought Steven Martin and Ellen DeGeneres were fine. I don't understand why so much discussion and drama surrounds the question of who's hosting since they're barely present after the opening monologue.

Crystal is the only one I feel is too outdated. His routine was tired by the end of the 90s. Neil Patrick Harris would be a good choice since he doesn't mind rehearsing.

Bret Ratner is a fucking idiot and I hope the hollywood Karma hammer pounds him into obscurity sooner rather than later...

But another vote for changing the format somewhat... you would need some kind of host to keep things going, but you know, instead of the scripted jokes, sketches and what not, maybe give the winners a couple extra minutes to make their speeches... which are often intentionally (or unintentionally) the funniest and most entertaining part of the show.

By that logic, why have a broadcast at all? Just post the winners on the Oscar website and be done with it.

As bad as the show can be (and it's often pretty bad), I still enjoy watching it. The montages, the corny dance numbers, the cheeseball Celine Dion songs, I look forward to watching it every year. I'm curious to see who they pick for the host, as I think that has a lot to do with how good/bad the show ends up.

He may be a douchebag and a hack as a director. But his comments aren't what makes him a douchebag. It's nice that someone in Hollywood says something, anything for once. Now, I don't condone the "***" comment at all, but his comments on Stern were not that bad and quite funny.

It's funny how the Oscars have the reputation of being run by a bunch of old codgers, so they try to dispel that notion by getting Ratner to produce and getting Murphy to host. Then they both get tossed aside, pretty much confirming that reputation is true.

I'd be all for doing away with the broadcast altogether, but they do it to make money off advertisers. Since 2001, they average about 39M viewers while the previous decade averaged 46M. There's still a lot of people watching, but they're not going to pull in younger demographic that they want. To me it's like the Tonight Show or Saturday Night Live. The people that are set in their ways with watching it, no matter how bad it is, will watch, while it won't gain that many newer viewers because they have no interest in artsy fartsy movies that are nominated. No amount of stunt hosting or category changing to include box office hits will matter.

No he isn't. He only accepted hosting duties because Ratner was named and he was comfortable with him. He isn't going to do it if someone else is running the show. Completely understandable.

I'd like to see Robert Downey Jr. He's funny, charming and a two time nominee. If he's not too busy, he would make a decent Oscar host. Could promoted his next film at the same time.
