No, it just wasn't a well done accent. A co-worker of mine from S. Africa thought it was bad.

And Leonardo DiCaprio in "Blood Diamond"!? He was fantastic in that film.

I can never find anyone that agrees with me, but I though Jody Foster in Silence of the Lambs was the worst ever...

What about Drew Barrymore in that Cinderella movie. Was it called "Ever After"?

Colin Farrell in "Daredevil" .
I agree with the Drew Barrymore in "Ever After" and Zellweger's accent to me wasn't that bad but her character just annoyed me overall.

Having not seen "Daredevil", I didn't even know Colin Farrell was in it. And I swear I don't even remember seeing him in the trailer. But yeah, agree with you 100% that Zellweger's accent was not the problem with her performance in "Cold Mountain". It was just an annoying character.

yeah I believe it was the first film where he used his real accent, at least according to the trivia on the Daredevil dvd. Kinda a response to someone who mentioned James Marsters in a thread about actors who had good fake "american" accents

I know someone from South Africa and his accent is even more ridiculous sounding than Leo's did.
I think he did a very good job with pulling off such a goofy sounding accent to begin with. It's a tough one to do while keeping a dramatic tone.
Shouldn't be on the list.

For all the criticism of his casting (see Ed Wood) plenty of people in Mexico are of Northern European ancestry (there were many, many German immigrants to Mexico) and it isn't far fetched that Heston's character had ties to the U.S. either through a parent or being schooled there, and thus spoke English without a Mexican/Spanish accent. It isn't in the script, but I'm sure Welles thought his audiences could figure this out without stating it explicitly.
My favorite is Jeff Bridges in The Vanishing. I don't know if it's an accurate Dutch (??) accent or not, but it sure sounds weird and out of place, and not in a way that helps the film.
