Re: Blade Runner 2 - Rumors, news, etc.
Dennis Villeneuve is a positively INSPIRED choice for this - I was skeptical but they've got me interested now.

I see someone linked this story above already. Lets hope he's more than just the narrator!

I really liked Prisoners. Not sure i would say Enemy is a masterpiece though. Its a very interesting movie and nicely done, but i can see how many would simply hate it. I watched it along with The Double in the same week and both were interesting, but found that Enemy handled the inspired storyline a lot better. I am happy with the selection of director. As much as i love the original Blade Runner, Ridley Scott has had such a mixed bag of films under his belt. Most misses. He has an amazing eye and can set up fantastic shots, but a lot of times the stories are severely lacking. This is a movie that will suceed if the story succeeds. Having nice effects that replicate the original alone will not suffice. I think that Denis will help push the story aspects in the right direction.

I'm not, he's too good to be a hired gun working for Scott.
Don't forget Incendies & Polytechnique bitches. Dennis Villeneuve isn't a Johnny come lately, he's been doing good movies before Prisoners & Enemy.

Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star alongside Harrison Ford in the "Blade Runner" sequel at Alcon Entertainment.
Hampton Fancher and Michael Green pen the film which will take place several decades after the 1982 original. Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard, it's unknown who Gosling will play in the pic.
Denis Villeneuve ("Prisoners") will direct the sci-fi thriller which Ridley Scott is returning to produce only.

That really is a great pick for director. Get the one guy that still does modern atmospheric noir to make the follow-up that was a futuristic atmospheric noir.
Anyway, here's an interview with him on the topic: “ 'Blade Runner' Is Almost A Religion For Me”: Denis Villeneuve Talks Directing The Sci-Fi Sequel

Ryan Gosling? Exactly what this movie needs. An actor that always seems like he's mainlining Xanax during every performance.

How will Ryan Gosling live up to the incredible emotion and range brought by Harrison Ford in the original?

The Nexus-6 model was "More Human Than Human" and thus had heightened emotions. In the dreary world of Blade Runner, humans are pretty much emotionless.
The Voight-Kampf test showed the irony of this, because if the subject showed emotions they were not human.
Rachel highlighted this even more since she was a newer model that was supposed to "fix" the emotional problems of the Nexus-6 and be more human, thus her being emotionless too.
Now, if Ryan Gosling is either playing an emotionless human or an emotionless newer-model replicant, it could work okay.
However, I don't think I've even sat through a movie of his, so I guess I don't have an opinion about him one way or another.
Also, I have really low expectations for this movie anyway because of my love of the original movie and book, so I guess if it craps out it won't destroy my world.

I agree that Harrison Ford's performance was hardly emotionally charged but I think that was supposed to be the point.
