Platoon Actor Francesco Quinn (son of Anthony Quinn) R.I.P.

Francesco Quinn, the actor son of movie legend Anthony Quinn, had a promising debut with a supporting role in the Oscar-winning film "Platoon" before carving out a journeyman career with steady TV work and straight-to-video productions. He died Friday evening of a suspected heart attack at 48.

Quinn collapsed on the street where he lived in Malibu while walking home from a nearby store with one of his sons, said Lt. James Royal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Malibu/Lost Hills station. He was pronounced dead at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. Quinn's agent, Arlene Thornton, said in a statement that the cause had not been determined but that he was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

One of a reported 13 children of Anthony Quinn, the Academy Award-winning actor remembered for his title role in "Zorba the Greek," Francesco Daniele Quinn was born in Rome in 1963. His mother, Iolanda Addolori, was an Italian wardrobe assistant who met his father on the set of the film "Barabbas" and later married him. The couple had two more children.

Francesco Quinn's ancestry Anthony was of Mexican-Irish descent allowed him to portray a range of characters.

After playing the drug-dealing soldier Rhah in "Platoon," Oliver Stone's 1986 Vietnam War drama that won the Academy Award for best picture, Quinn appeared in more than a dozen films. In "The Tonto Woman," a Western based on an Elmore Leonard story that became a 2008 Academy Award nominee for best live-action short, he played a Mexican gunslinger.

On television, he had recurring roles in prime time series, including "JAG," "24" and "The Shield," and from 1999 to 2001, he played writer Tomas del Cerro on the soap opera "The Young and the Restless." He also played the young Santiago in a TV movie version of Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" that starred his father as the title character.

Quinn's survivors include his wife, Valentina Castellani-Quinn, and three children. He was previously married to Julie McCann.
Wow. Didn't even know Anthony Quinn had a son.

He had at least twelve children, the most recent one was born when he was 81 years old.

Anthony Quinn's Kids:

Christopher (born 1939), Christina (born December 1, 1941), Catalina (born November 21, 1942), Duncan (born August 4, 1945), and Valentina (born December 26, 1952).[9] One of their sons, Christopher, age 2, drowned in the swimming pool of next-door neighbor W.C. Fields.[9] Quinn and DeMille were divorced in 1965.

The following year, he married Italian film costume designer Jolanda Addolori. They had three children: Francesco (March 22, 1963 – August 5, 2011), Danny (born April 16, 1964), and Lorenzo (born May 7, 1966). The union ended in 1997, after Quinn fathered a child with his secretary, Katherine Benvin. He then married Benvin, with whom he had two children, Antonia (born July 23, 1993) and Ryan Nicholas (born July 5, 1996).[10][11] Quinn and Benvin remained together until his death.

Quinn also fathered two other children with Friedel Dunbar: Sean Quinn (born February 7, 1973), a New Jersey real estate agent, and Alexander Anthony Quinn (born December 30, 1976), an event producer in Los Angeles, CA.[11][12]

Apparently the guy had no concept of birth control, hated condoms, or wanted a dozen kids. In all, 8 boys (6 surviving) and 4 girls.

Only other movie I saw him in was Judgement. I'm assuming this movie was originally un-releasable (One look at it and you might see why) but after the success of the "Hood" movies in the early 90s (As well as containing a cameo-apperance by Cuba Gooding Jr) it was released as Hitz on video.

What's with the picture above where he's in the Willem Dafoe pose from Platoon?

That's from scene towards the end of the movie. When I saw that scene I thought that he would have made a great gurilla soilder in a PLANET OF THE APES movie.

I knew who he was but thought he disappeared after Platoon. It's kind of unsettling when someone several years younger than you are dies of an age related illness.
