I remember the first film made a very long establishing depiction of one of the samples being encrusted in mud and rain after Ned drops it - wonder if that will come into play for JP4?

^ When I was a kid I fully expected JP2 to pick up with that lost shaving cream can and was disappointed when they didn't. I think though, that they made some reference to it in part 1 that, in the can, the embryos would only be viable for 48 hours or something. I'm not sure even being encrusted in mud would keep them viable for 20 years.
I say bring part 4 on! Even though I have my problems with 2 and 3 I still love the series and always look forward to a new entry.
Even though I liked the kids in part 1, shoehorning a kid into parts 2 and 3 was ridiculous. Please, no kids this time.
...And no super smart military dinos. Please!

They've been talking about JP4 off and on for a decade. This announcement does little for me. Cast? Filming date? Just a vague "maybe in 2-3 years" isn't really a confidence booster.
I love all three films and welcome a fourth if it actually comes to fruition.

I think this is the first time Spielberg had officially confirmed it will happen though, right? Not that it boosts my confidence any, but it sounds like Spielberg/Universal want another movie and to either continue or reboot the franchise. Don't think we need solid film and release dates to support that. I'm all for it. Hell, can't be any worse than the last one.

KillerCannibal, I want something like that which they had been planning to make: a Special Ops force of talking raptors with laser guns.
I picture a scene where they send in these raptors on some anti-terrorist raid. Purely awesome.

^There's a lot that could still be mined from Crichton's novels I suppose. I miss him

I don't know how a remake would work. Sure, A LOT was left out of the books and the movie would have better had more been included but many scenes in Jurassic Park are absolutely perfect and there's no way they could be improved upon.
A remake would have to have an initial dinosaur reveal and how could it be done any better than the Brachiosaurus reveal in the original? Obviously there would have to be T-Rex scenes. I just don't see how those scenes could be improved on. To this day, almost 20 years later, I think think those T-Rex scenes are the best use of CGI I've ever seen.
If a remake were done I just envision some new cool stuff that was in the book and some of the same scenes that were already done in the original but not nearly as well done.

Jurassic Park: Endangered Species
Jurassic Park: Extinction
Jurassic Park: The New World
My trilogy idea covering the spread of dinosaurs world-wide and it's negative effect on human population bringing us to the brink of extinction until a new ecological balance is formed.

Okay here's my idea for another Jurassic Park:
Jurassic Park is a real zoo/amusement park that's been open for years without a single problem. The park is coming up on its 5th anniversary and the park execs want to bring everyone back: Grant, Ellie, Malcolm, Tim and Lex. At first they all resist but eventually Tim convinces them all to come back to the park. Like the first one, they see the behind the scenes, the see the upgraded security... the park execs keep reassuring them that everything has worked flawlessly for years and Malcolm was in fact wrong.
Until they learn that the raptors have been digging tunnels under their pen (think Andy Dufresne in Shawshank) the raptors get out, in the chaos they cause the other dinosaur enclosures to shut down and the dinos escape. All hell breaks loose... Malcolm sacrifices himself to save the others... some of the original crew makes to a helicopter and makes it out alive. The end.
I haven't thought everything through cause Spielberg isn't hiring me to write it but that's what I would do.

I like it. It could still be a reboot in a way because everybody would be back at the park with fences and in order to see the upgraded security they could tour the park and look at the T-Rex and all the other dinos just like in the first movie and then in the second half of the movie the dinos could run amok just like in the first movie as well, but due to a different reason.

If they went back to Michael Crichton's two Jurassic Park novel for ideas, what's left to mine? The waterfall attack left out of the first film made it into the 2nd film. The pterosaur aviary and the river chase from the original book both made it, in a form, into the 3rd film. So I doubt they will repeat any of those scenes again. The velociraptor attack on the High Hide from the second book is still unfilmed - but, aside from that, I can't think of any other major dinosaur scenes from the novels that didn't make it in one form or another into one of the already existing films.
So if they don't mine Crichton's books for scene ideas this time, I at least would like the next movie to have a tone closer to the darker tone of Crichton's novels instead of the generally lighter tone of the previous movies.

I've complained about it before and I'll complain about it again ... invisible dinosaurs, second book.
That said, I think they will cash in on the latest trend in Hollywood ... all of the dinosaurs on the island have been finally been wiped out. A team of scientists and military escorts arrive on the island to study the events that occurred. Only a horrifying discovery is made ... ZOMBIE DINOSAURS!
OK, how about this ... miniature versions of the dinosaurs have penetrated the consumer market, sold as household pets. Once children lose interest, parents begin flushing the mini-dinos down the toilet. It is discovered that some of these have been surviving and GROWING in the New York sewer system ...
Meh, screw it. Just give me a 3-D version of a Director's Cut (I don't care if the scenes are new, ala Lucas) of the original. It was one of the first movies I saw with digital sound ... two things still stick in my memory (and they aren't the dinosaur sounds): the rain and the score. Wow.

With the writer for such brilliant films as 'I Am Legend', 'Poseidon', 'The Cell', and 'Thor' on board?
I expect another classic from the 'Oscar-winning genius' Spielberg.
