I'm going to figure the Warner Bros. are gonna go to JK Rowling's home and make her churn out another HP book Misery style sometime real soon.

Btw, $43M+ is insane. That's more than some films make in an opening weekend.

Damn. Good thing I didn't even try to go. I considered it last night. I remember that the Avatar midnight screening wasn't a big deal. I figured it'd be about the same for this.
Anyways, I'll give it a week and go see it with the old folks on some weekday morning.

Avatar didin't have anywhere near the hype leading into it. Potter is poised to have 2x the opening weekend Avatar did, and for what it's worth, Avatar made $3.5m at Midnight.

Some interesting history:
The final picture in the magical franchise topped all other Harry Potter movies’ midnight grosses. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 earned $24 million at midnight last year, while Half-Blood Prince pulled in $22.2 million. Part 2 also more-than-tripled the $12 million that Order of the Phoenix earned at midnight, and earned almost seven times as much as Goblet of Fire, which grossed $6.3 million at midnight.

Avatar had a strange never ending run that only Cameron movies seem to have. Plus, everyone wanted to see that in 3d. Now, we aren't so interested. I do not think Harry will even get close to Avatar, but Harry will still have a great run.

The 16 screen theater around here had it playing, sold out, on every screen at midnight, including one IMAX screen (arrived for IMAX 2 hours early and could only find two seats in the 3rd row or closer). Management actually opened up 3:00 am shows for overflow demand. I've never seen anything close to what I saw last night in terms of demand and enthusiasm.
