He was unwilling to make the one cent adjustment, because he didn't want to offend "the system". These people are so brainwashed by policy that they simply cannot see the advantages of altering a policy for a particular instance. It's pretty frightening when you think about it.

My general policy was this: If you ask nicely, admit that you're asking someone to break the rules for you, and be generally decent about the request, I would probably grant it. If you're going to act like a dick, well, you broke the rules and I'm just going to have to stick by them.

Not sure why anyone would eat out of that for!

 Good for you. I was nothing but polite in my situation. The guy was either a corporate stooge like Numanoid said or was on a power trip. Either way they lose in the end, not me.

Oh and dirty diapers? WTF? Who can't be bothered to take their kid to the restroom to change them? What the hell is wrong with people?

I work in a completely different environment and the same "policy" goes. If you're genuine and sincere in your request, we will take care of you even if it means breaking the rules. If you want to be an asshole, fine, we will fight fire with fire and be an even bigger one right back to you.

Now going back to the topic at hand...

The one independent theater chain in town, Brenden, does this on occasion. Depending on the day/time of day, the box office will rip the tickets for you OR you'll go to the concession stand to buy your ticket (where they'll rip it as well).

They have one simple job; rip your ticket and tell you what screen the film is playing in. Why can't they just get rid of the ticket takers and merge the job to the cashier who sells the tickets??? That's one less person to pay and can then reduce cost to concession stands or put money into other parts of the theater.

there is a theater chain here in Phx that does just that. called cinemark.

Thank you. :) I was a "ticket taker" during college in L.A. back in 1984. I was also an usher and helped with concessions and tickets when needed.

Anytime, fellow ex-usher! I worked at an Art House summer of 2004...and you could NOT rip the tickets fast enough for first week or so of Fahrenheit 9/11. We even set up an extra screening, it was so packed. Then on top of that, ushers had to stand outside the door to make sure that they went to the right theater. Keep in mind that we only had seven screens in the whole theater.

Me too. Kid's movies were the worst. Dirty diapers, half eaten happy meals, etc.

I guess it all evened out in the end. On many occasions, I found cash and joints! :)

Former usher here too.

Worst discovery (other than the occasional used condom): Someone took a dump in one of the soap dispensers. :yack:

Gross! Someone smeared shit all over the men's room and I refused to clean it up. Glad I didn't get fired but there was no way I would clean that digusting mess up.

We had six screens I believe. I loved seeing how many people would walk out of Blue Velvet. I love that film. :)

The theaters here don't have anyone taking the tickets. I think they might check on the really busy shows/opening weekend, but I haven't been to one of those in a long time.

Also, I've never been hassled bringing in a water bottle.

At first I was disgusted, but after thinking about it I'm actually kind of impressed.
