A reminder, though, these guys are bleeding money, the more you abuse the service (and make it harder for them to have useful tracking info), the quicker they'll go under. I realize you can always use the argument that "everyone else is doing it" and there are much more heinous loopholes people are using, I'm just saying, how much more of a deal do you want than what they officially offer?
Also, I'm pretty sure if you do stuff like this, you want to make sure you use the full amount credited to the card. If you get a ticket for 11.50 or something and spend 10 bucks on popcorn, I would think that's going to send up a red flag eventually.

Deb, I'm not arguing whether or not you can get away with it. It's just important to know what the TOS allows and doesn't allow on paper.
fujishig, I totally agree.
At $10/month, I just don't see the point in trying to circumvent their very basic rules, even if there's (currently) no way to catch you, but
there's no stopping people who were always going to milk the system anyway. No offense to those who do it, but it's in the best interest of MoviePass (and regular users who don't game the system) to have some sort of 3-strike policy and the occasional random "proof of purchase" request to find such users and drop them.
I still think this should have been $14.99 or even $19.99. I saw The Dark Tower last night, and my ticket was $9.99 + tax. MP lost $0.85 on my purchase right there, and it was already my 3rd movie seen this month using MP.

I have no idea if there's interest, and I almost hate to bring it up since I know there's folks still anxiously awaiting their cards, but I'd like to log how much use I'm getting from the MoviePass (# of films, money saved possibly, etc?). re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]
Yep, I've used it as a discount on IMAX. If you go to the first 3D showing and sign up at the latest regular showing there's one theater where it would cost me 50 cents and another one where it's free (I go to the free one
).
That stopped when they started requiring some people (me included) to take a picture of the stub after every purchase (and if you didn't then they just shut your account down). But after the $10 price change the app doesn't ask me for that anymore. Hopefully that means that with all these subscribers they just don't have enough time. First time I get asked for a pic of the stub I'll just cancel that check in and do another one for a movie I'll go see.
Another trick is to go on different days and check in for different movies and each time you go buy a ticket for the same movie on the same day (i.e. go Thursday, Friday, Saturday, check in for three different movies one on each day, and buy three tickets for the same movie on Saturday), that way you can treat a friend or two to a free movie.
When in doubt, sign in for the latest showing of a movie (i.e. after 8p), those are the most expensive tickets of the day and give you the most bang for the buck.

The theaters like AMC may catch on too and notice that someone using a Movie Pass credit card is buying a ticket for a screening days in advance or for a special event/3D ticket and refuse to take the card.

This is possible, yes. Ticket prices are generally pretty steady, so MP knows how much to load onto the card when you check in for a regular screening or a matinee. So yes, if they see, say 10 MP users at one theater all payed $9.50 for their tickets, but one only paid $8, that could be a red flag that that user MAY be cheating the system. Not definitive... but something they could easily flag and watch for trends.
This... I'm not so sure about. You can always just use the kiosks, but even if the location doesn't have those for some reason, it's not up to them to refuse to accept a payment method that they have a contractual obligation (with MasterCard, not MoviePass specifically) to accept. I don't think that would be an issue... unless/until they officially partner together on this venture where MP gets a reduced rate for every ticket sold through their app or something. Then it would be in AMC's interest to ensure every ticket sold via MP is legit, because if it isn't, that could affect their own bottom line.

^ Ah yes, you're right. Buying a ticket that's more expensive than what's loaded on the card would not work at a kiosk for the reasons you said. You'd be forced to deal with a human in that case (or just not circumvent the TOS
)
What I would like MoviePass to do is have an "upgrade your purchase" feature. So let's say a movie is playing at one theater in three formats:
- standard
- 3D
- IMAX 3D
The standard MoviePass check-in would be good for the standard viewing only. That makes sense. But if you choose on of the other options, then MP uses your credit card (which you use for your monthly subscription fee) to charge you the extra $2 or $5 or whatever, loading that additional cash onto the MP card so you can legitimately upgrade to a better option without having to do all that silliness with multiple payment methods or whatever.

There's also stuff in their TOS that says they can limit the number of tickets sold and/or change the terms of the agreement. I realize they said that we're locked in for a year at this price, but they can still change what the 9.99 gets you. They want to get 2.5 million subscribers by next year, that VC money is going to bleed out fast at this rate. I mean I'm sure Star Wars alone people will see multiple times. Around here a regular non matinee movie probably averages 13 bucks or so, so they lose 3 bucks the first time I go to a movie.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]
There's mention in their TOS that there are supposed to be other, more expensive, plans that allow you to see IMAX or whatever, but I'm not sure if that was available before the price drop or if that's just in planning stages. I think that's another reason theaters don't like Moviepass, don't they make more money off of the premium shows? If a lot of people use Moviepass legitimately, that's a lot of people who would eschew the extras to use their subscription instead.

Well, they did at one time have a limit in certain locations. Like in a region all the tickets for the evening would be sold out because of demand from other moviepass subscribers so you couldn't go at all until the next day.

I have no idea if there's interest, and I almost hate to bring it up since I know there's folks still anxiously awaiting their cards, but I'd like to log how much use I'm getting from the MoviePass (# of films, money saved possibly, etc?). Just for personal use, I suppose I could make a post here and edit it. Any others interested in a specific thread dedicated to such?

Just got an e-mail from Movie Pass. They said they hired more staff to help with all these orders, however there is a 2-3 week delay for many.
They also said that some people who signed up later will receive their cards sooner.

Yeh they posted that on their blog.
Something about the sign up algorithm got shuffled so newer sign ups getting cards before earlier sign ups.
I signed on aug 16. Still nothing.
Still a 4 digit card number on the app.

Yes I'll definitely spend a couple dollars more then usual with the moviepass.
Mine finally arrived today.
Still no reply from @moviepass on twitter despite my daily question to them about when I'll get it.
Anyway.
Has anyone figured out if it works legitimately on the IMAX It!

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]
I sent them an email on 8/15 asking about the problem with e-ticketing at MJR theaters (in the android app, the seating chart does not display correctly, the seats are all out of order, which makes it difficult to choose your seat, especially if you're trying to sit next to someone else.) This issue has been ongoing since last April. At first they denied there was any issue, I guess because it didn't occur to them that anyone could be using the Android app (I guess iPhone is fine). Anyway they had promised me back in April that it would be fixed in the next update, and in the meantime if I wanted to call them, they would activate my card for check ins so that I could buy my tickets the old fashioned way. Fast forward 4 months, and there has been no change, though there have been a couple of updates to the app. Of course, the date that I sent this latest email was also the same date that they launched the 9.95 price point, though I was not aware of that at the time I sent the email. I still have no response other than the automated one that said that they got it. Of course I can't call them up and check in the old fashioned way anymore, because all of their phone calls go straight to a recording that advises you to use chat or email.
I also emailed them on 8/18 because the app would not respond, and I had to buy my ticket out of pocket. Sent them pictures of my stub and receipt. This email has also not been responded to by a human, and no refund has been issued to my card.
Still no response on the seating chart issue, but I can't imagine they will be getting to that issue any time soon, with everything else they have going on.
Really though, they knew about the issue and probably should have fixed it before rolling out the new program (I can't imagine it would be that hard to fix), because a lot more people are going to be complaining about it now.

Not sure that is definitely the case all the time. The local Imax here is showing It in Imax, and it shows in the app, and allows you to click the "check in" button for it. I did not click the button, but went as far as I could without actually checking in. This same theater showed the Inhumans Imax thing last week or the week before, but that was not listed in the app.

Checked the map and there are only 3 movie theaters in my immediate area that Movie Pass is accepted at: a Regal, AMC, and a Laemmle's.
I don't know if it would be worth getting due to the AMC and Laemmle's not having reserved seating and the AMC is at a mall, which is a pain in the ass to navigate through the parking structure. Also, it's an AMC. Riff-raff a-plenty.
EDIT -- just saw that the New Beverly accepts it. Ok, you got me, I will give it a spin -- in theory, I would only have to use Movie Pass once per month in order to get my money's worth, right?

Used it 4 times so far. I'm in love. Add the fact that there is a brand new theater about 4 mins from my house, I plan on using this a lot

I've used it four times as well. All went well without any problems. At the Drafthouse, I just make sure I log into the kiosk with my Victory info before I buy my ticket, so I know it applies to my account. Takes an extra 30 seconds or so, but it's fine.
I'm not an AMC Stubs member, but I've heard that they're now cracking down on people who use MP to buy tickets and get Stubs rewards. I guess AMC can tell which Mastercards are MovePass cards specifically (some sort of range, I imagine?), so the points or rewards or whatever won't be applied when you buy a ticket.
Let me see if I can find the info...
