re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

I have continued to support MoviePass through all of this mess, but if they continue to limit movies to only a few a day it is seriously going to impact my desire to use this as a pass for my independent theater. There is no way one of their few films a day is going to be something like Three Identical Strangers, Skate Kitchen, Madeline's Madeline, etc. Not requiring ticket verification will not help in these instances since this theater will not be playing any movie big enough to be deemed worthy by MoviePass.

Some weird bug going on in the app right now (or maybe it's a feature?), going in and out of a theater, sometimes it will show all movie sometimes only The Meg and Crazy Rich Asians.

I’m seeing every movie and all times open.

Must be a fluke.

The top comment on the whole year celebration sweepstakes is pure gold

As you get closer to the trip, the prize will change from what you were promised. It will change from a round trip trip for 2 to LA and by the time you get there it will be a one way trip for 1 to Boise, ID.

On reddit the mod posted the "selection." It's actually five movies, but no surprise on why most only see 2:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MoviePassCl...5k&sh=c77986dc
Wednesday, August 15 2018 Movie Selection:

Wide Releases: The Meg (4,118 Theaters) & Crazy Rich Asians (3,303 Theaters)
Limited Releases: Miseducation of Cameron Post (25 Theaters), Madeline's Madeline (1 Theater), & Skate Kitchen (1 Theater)
that takes some balls.

Hey...the options are there. Not MP's fault you're not gonna drive to that 1 theater.

This morning, I only saw The Meg listed with showings all day at all the cinemas showing it.
Now I see Christopher Robin and Crazy Rich Asians, also with showings all day.

I just checked again... now it’s limited to all showings of just two films: Christopher Robin and Crazy Rich Asians.

Yeah, they changed Meg to Christopher Robin.

But they have published which movies are going to be available on which days:

https://www.moviepass.com/movies/

It's awesome news if you live next to that one theater showing Skate Kitchen or Summer of 84

Interview with Ted and Mitch today on FOX Business. They seem to think that things are going okay. They claim they have reduced cash burn to about 12M per month. They still say that they have over 3M subscribers.

That’s awful kind and forthright of them to give us a heads up like that.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

"We've had over a million subscribers join in the last week?" What? I highly doubt that. People are seeing these changes and running to subscribe? A third of their userbase?

Oh, they mean a million subscribers opted in to the new plan. Because they had to.

There was an error that popped up on the screen that made people think their cancellation didn't work, but it was just a visual error. Uh...

Burn rate down to around 12 million a month the last three weeks. How? By not letting people use the service.

And he repeats "any movie."

Snake oil salesmen.

Glad they posted the list so I can try to plan a little bit. What are the odds they stick with it?

I could see some value still in having MoviePass if they have a schedule with 5-6 alternating movies a day. But the service is practically useless to me if showtimes continue to disappear early in the evening (as happened today).

Question for the Costco cancelers:
My septuagenarian parents enjoyed their Costco-purchased MoviePass memberships until things became murky, confusing, and too frustrating for them in the past month or so. Me, I can kinda roll with the punches - I’ve been following everything and know what’s been going on. But for them it’s simply a service that stopped working as promised. So I told them that Costco was offering refunds to anyone who asked for one, and that the service isn’t going to return to what it used to be (and they aren’t really interested in what it has turned into). So they went to Costco with their receipt and got their money back, which according to them was a simple, painless process.
My question: do they still need to cancel MP from their app? Or do anything else? Does Costco pass along the refund on their account to MP, or are they merely returning the payment?
Interesting to note: the manager who processed the refund told them that they were the first to request a refund at their location.

Their average user goes to .8 movies per month? People like me I'm sure are in the minority, not the average user.

I've heard that people who got a refund from Costco were still able to use MP.

I've heard differently, that they cut you off soon after you cancel with Costco.

Apparently they sent another mass email out to subscribers detailing the "up to 6" plan, and the disappearing showtimes really aren't going away:

As we transition to the new subscription plan, we want to share more details about our service moving forward as part of our commitment to keep you fully informed. For the time being, we will be limiting the films and showtimes that are available to members each day. During this transition period, MoviePass will offer up to six films to choose from daily, including a selection of major studio first-run films and independent releases. In addition, showtime availability may be limited depending on the popularity of those films on the app that particular day.

While the films and showtimes available in the app will change daily, the schedule of available film selections will be published at least a week in advance on the MoviePass website so members can plan ahead for the films they want to see. Click here to see the current schedule. Please note that e-ticketing will continue to include ALL movies and showtimes with no restrictions. Because actual availability will change daily, we encourage our members to always check the MoviePass app before leaving for the theater.
I feel like they're still stringing people along to have hope that there's a time when the "transition" period is over that they'll go back to the glory days of no restrictions.

Stock down to $04. cents. I'm guessing the mass email didn't help them any.

How many hoops to they expect people to jump through for this thing?

Plan your evening a week in advance, go to the theater in the morning to get your tickets, go back that night to see the movie because you can't count on that movie being available when it's time for the movie.

This is the worst discount program ever.

Stock is down to 3.6 cents.

That mass email didn't help them gain any confidence from Wall Street. Sorry to see so many lose shit loads of money investing in this damn company. But really they should have known better.

A Movie Vlogger I watch mentioned that if you had $30,000 invested back in October, it's now worth roughly $1.60.
