I just paid them recently and got my card through the mail. Am I safe?

Every time you think "hey, it couldn't get any worse," it does.

Haha of course they did. You think they still have enough money saved up to purchase a year subscription to Norton Antivirus?

I wouldn't be surprised if the leak is just an excuse for Mitch Lowe to use people's credit cards to pay his debt until he gets caught.

Haha, I was just coming here to post that.

And just a few hours ago, I used my Alamo Drafthouse Season Pass.

Well, if anything, MoviePass and Sinemia made the theater chains see that subscriptions were economically viable. So viable, in fact, that the chains said fuck you, we'll do our own and essentially put you guys out of business.

I can't entirely hate them. Yeah it was an unsustainable business model. But, it let me see many movies over the year I had it. But once their cash started running out and they put all this restrictions and then fucked around with the app to limit movies because they didn't want to pay for it, then I had it with them.

Agreed! AMC supposedly had been working on its own subscription program but I really doubt that that would have ever gone national without MoviePass.
Right now I’m so happy with my Alamo Season Pass, my AMC A-List and (once I run out of free passes) Regal Unlimited. All because of MoviePass! Thanks!!!

I think they would've gone national, but obviously MoviePass had them move their timeline up a bunch AND I'm sure it wouldn't have launched at the pricepoint it did. So thanks Moviepass for that, now I just hope Regal and AMC and the rest continue to fight each other instead of colluding and raising prices together.

Piss on them. I never seen a company try so hard to keep me from using their service. It didn't bother me so much that the service sucked as it did the blatant lie that they were only trying to improve the app. Weird that they temporarily made it available a few weeks ago and then pulled the plug again. Just die already. Cutting up my card tonight.

I am so glad that I was not one of the suckers that agreed to pay for a year in advance.

I'm glad I'm a late adopter when it comes to new services or products. Because I always see how it pans out for everyone else before I make the purchase.

This case is a perfect example.

? This case is a terrible example. If you were a naysayer and didn't jump in early, you didn't get to take advantage of them freely giving money away.

Now if you subscribed when they started changing terms and being shady, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Ah yes, I see I misspoke on that last sentence. I should have said:

Because I always see how it pans out for everyone else before I decide if I want to make the purchase.

In this case, I decided not to purchase Movie Pass at all, regardless of any benefits it had in its early stages.

Dude you totally missed out. Seriously I saw so many movies with MP for so little money it's not even funny. I think MP is probably what made me starting coming around here more often after a long hiatus.

I still contend it was a perfectly viable business model. It was just run by asshats. If they had made reasonable gradual changes and not straight up lied to their customers in the end they could have made it work. Between the massive user base and selling movie going habits it really could have worked. Maybe a modest increase in price, upsell premium tickets, work with theaters to get discount ticket pricing. Instead they tried everything they could to not raise monthly prices including a bunch of underhanded practices so that they sunk the boat.

I don't care how good the service was originally. It's worth no amount of money to me for a company like this to have any sort of data on me. So I'm also grateful that I never signed up for the service.

So you've never signed with any company.

I didn't say that. I said a company like Moviepass.

You guys are missing the point while trying to play "internet gotcha" with mattysemo247. The point is, it's a relief to not have given yet another company a bunch of personal information for them to sell, especially one that was shown to be as unscrupulous as MoviePass. Giving personal information to other companies, now or in the past, does not negate the validity of that relief.

But they weren't unscrupulous at the time they lowered the price to $9.99. They just seemed stupid.
