GL was terrible and I'm not surprised to see the numbers reflect that a little bit.

When people were convinced Cars 2 was gonna do no more than $50-60 million, I guffawed. To kids (especially boys), the Cars property is crack. This thing is gonna do great business.
Massive plummet for Green Lantern. Probably to be expected. The film was terrible and WOM has been awful.

Don't know what it is but I get a real Hulk (2003) type vibe from the Green Lantern. There's just a lot of similarities there. Ambitiously large marketing push prior to the release by the studio, large opening weekend followed by a massive 60-70% drop the following weekend as bad word of mouth started to spread. My friends that saw Green Lantern said it was better then Hulk (2003) but I'm not in any hurry to watch it...doubt I'll even see it during it theatrical run.

I think that $19 mil estimation for Green Lantern will be a bit too high. I'm not sure it'll get a Saturday bump and I think it could end up with about $16-$17 mil instead. Lee's Hulk dropped 69% in weekend 2. I think this has a shot at doing the same. And again, factor in the 3D premium. Take that away and the numbers would look even worse.
I also laughed when I read some sites predicting about $55 mil for Cars 2. Pixar is critic proof.
X-Men is also starting to hold pretty steady. It's on pace for a 40% hold. I think it'll have just enough to reach $140 mil, but I think Transformers will ensure it won't reach $150 mil. Still, it'll end up with a respectable number when you consider that the film has 0 stars and it's following the crummy Wolverine movie. It'll end up with $300+ mil worldwide. That might be enough to convince Fox to do a sequel sooner than later. I hope so. More Fassbender as Magneto is necessary.

GL will ultimately finish at $120-130 million tops. Hopefully, Warner will learn their lesson about trying to construct a franchise by committee.

Green Lantern looks horrible. I had no interest in the property but thought maybe Martin Campbell could make a decent film out of it. The reviews helped me decide to skip it altogether.
Loved Super 8. Only film i've seen in theaters all year.

Between Hulk, Green Hornet and Green Lantern, I guess that Green Arrow movie's never gonna happen.

I think Green Lantern will struggle to reach $110 mil. With Transformers dominating next week, GL will have another massive drop in weekend 3. And the foreign numbers aren't good either. This franchise is dead.

I liked it better than the over-bloated Avatar. It will make it's money back.
Almost at 100 mill.
Bad Teacher will be gone in a few weeks. Reviews have been terrible.
Cars is getting mixed reviews but will probably stay popular with the kids even though people aren't crazy about the propaganda message.

Riley...GL is dead in the water, this movie (which I went to see, by the way) will be lucky to get to $120-130m. International #s are also not good for this film, so a movie with a total budget of $300m (including P&A) will become a somewhat pricey fiscal year tax write-off for WB. Heck, Super 8 may end up out-grossing GL, and Super 8's budget was a fraction of GLs.
