Remember Marina Golbahari from 'Osama'?

She's still alive (it's Afghanistan, after all), still acting, and turning into a lovely young lady. Here's a pic and two contrasting reviews of her latest movie.

"Osama" is a remarkable movie. It was made in 2003, so just 2 years after Taliban liberation and it was the first movie shot in Afghanistan in something like 20 years. Marina was about 12 and illiterate. Girls could not go to school under the Taliban. So her director (an Afghani) had to feed her every line. And she was absolutely incredible. It was on par with Keisha Castle-Hughes in 'Whale Rider.' Other actors in the flick were nothing special. It was made for $46,000 and won the Golden Globe for best foreign film in 2004, yet wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. Don't ask me why.

Oh, and when you figure out the ending, you will be enraged.

I'm glad to see this kid surviving and thriving. She really could be something special.
