Attack The Block (2011, Writer/Director: Joe Cornish) Alien attack in South London
I....thought either I made a thread about this or someone else did....search came up w/ nothing. Either way..it's been getting good buzz. Looks funny, I'll see it.

Set on a council estate in South London on Bonfire night, the film follows a street gang, Moses (John Boyega), Pest (Alex Esmail), Dennis (Franz Drameh), Jerome (Leeon Jones) and Biggz (Simon Howard). While they are mugging nurse Sam (Jodie Whittaker), a fiery object falls from the sky, crashing through the roof of a nearby car. When they investigate, they discover a creature from the meteor and they kill it. Soon more aliens crash land and the gang has to defend themselves and their council estate from the alien invaders.

Re: Attack The Block (2011, Writer/Director: Joe Cornish) Alien attack in South Londo
I saw it 3 weeks ago and it was a blast - basically a 'Monster Squad' 'Night at the Creeps' meets 'Critters' type of flick, but with a bunch of British kids - the creatures are cool, the action is decent and the pace is great. A really fun time at the movies!
I don't know about the US, but up here in Toronto, they've been having weekly screenings since then - with passes on gofobo - so check that out to see if there is one in your area in advance of July 29.

I too saw this a few weeks ago and had a blast, just a fun movie from start to finish. Like MDC3000 said, it feels like a Monster Squad type movie but here the kids are hoodlums and curse like sailors. Don't want to give away too much, just go into this movie, turn off your brain and enjoy this blast from the past.

I have read about this one, but some of the articles mention the thick accents and dialogue that may not be familiar. Was it hard to figure out what they were saying? I always have trouble with stuff like that and usually need subtitles.

It wasn't Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels bad. Yeah some lines were hard to understand but you don't get lost in plot, that is fairly straight forward.

Seemed appropriate. But yeah the accents were nowhere near as thick in this one.

for the most part...I don't need subtitles for British flicks....I think Lock, Stock was the only one where I think needed them. Maybe snatch...

Yeah those working-class northerners have thick thick accents.
I don't usually have much of a problem understanding any British accent but my parents couldn't understand even the easiest high middle class Londoner accent. haha

I just saw it tonight. Pretty damn good, although the creature design left a little to be desired. All in all, I think I prefer this to Super 8.
John Boyega, who plays the main character Moses, is a total badass, and I hope to see more projects for him in the future.

Having seen the Comicon panel for this movie (with the director Cornish, exec producer Edgar Winters, and Boyega), I am actually mildly interested in seeing it now.

This completely upstaged Super 8 for me. It felt like a throwback to those fun 80's movies (as someone said earlier in the thread, like Monster Squad meets Critters), but updated it for a fresh take. Abrams should watch this and take note. A heck of a lot of fun.

from what I've read the Basement Jaxx score is the highlight of the film.

Loved it, surprised more people here aren't seeing this. There was a lot of hype within genre communities and the word of mouth has been pretty good.
I also felt it compared to Super 8 in many ways, not besting it nor inferior to it. Both films threw the same steak on the grill but seasoned it differently. My two favorite films I've seen this summer season.
