It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't as great as it should have been. I don't think they showed how great his power can be. The projections were pretty lame and there weren't enough of them. And the circumstances surrounding his first appearance was just incredibly weak. When Superman first appeared to rescue Lois, you wanted to watch it over and over. When Batman lifts Falcone out of the limo, it's iconic. GL just didn't have a moment like that.

Saw this over the weekend. At best a C+ movie, and maybe only because Blake is so hot. The origin story was very muddled and took too long to get into the story. The script wasn't great and the action scenes could have been much better. I think they wasted the character. Plus, the 3D was very underwhelming (had no choice). I'm not sold that this is a character that translates well to the big screen.

Finally saw this film, and enjoyed it. No, it wasn't as good as it should have been, and it wasn't as good as Iron Man and a bit worse than Thor. But considering the reviews, I thought I would hate it. I was moderately entertained, and don't care if someone has the idiotic opinion that someone should be deported for enjoying it.

^Hope you enjoy your new life in Singapore.
I still can't believe I gave this turd a 2.5... it's a 2-star movie at best, only because of everything on Oa does it keep from being a 1...

Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. It has lots of flaws, but some nice things too.
I enjoyed it more than Transformers 3 and Thor. Liked Reynolds, loved Lively.

i really thought this was pretty solid. i was surprised at how much i was entertained by it thoroughly.
sure, it wasn't the best superhero movie out there and i can see how with the otherworldy stuff it wouldn't appeal to general audiences. but, i thought Ryan Reynolds and cast did a really good job and i look forward to future installments.
highly recommended from me.

finally caught this, and thought it was pretty good... once you get thru that first 5 minutes of mind-numbing exposition. I actually preferred this to Captain America: The First Avenger (which I thought was great up until the point he became Captain America)

(apologies for breaking up the snark-fest)
Finally broke down and saw this a few weeks back. As a fan of the DC universe, and someone who would like to see a range of characters beyond Superman and Batman hit live-action, this turned out to be a very dispiriting experience. They had the budget, and talent in front of and behind the camera- but the major problems were all conceptual. The primary concept being a failure to get a handle on the main character. A hot shot, hot dog test pilot battling a contrived sense of fear and indecision in the middle act that comes out of nowhere? WTF? It was also a beyond terrible idea to make Hal a smarmy, unlikable have-it-all who gets further rewarded by recieving a magic ring. This Hal Jordan has to be one of the most unsympathetic and least likable kid friendly superheroes I've ever seen.
One horrendous creative choice after another.
Also, I'm not up on the current Geoff Johns era of the character, but when did all this colored ring nonsense start? Is "the emerald color of will/yellow color of fear, etc" something that was concocted in the silver age, or was that a contrivance of the last decade or so. Either way, that should have been ditched for the film as it comes across as super-silly when uttered with solemn intonation.
Was hoping all the negativity was misplaced with this, but it wasn't.
and for the record, I ended up loving Captain America, my quibbles with the suit notwithstanding. And Thor was a blast too. Overall a great year for big budget comic-related properties- even with this massive mis-fire.

I never read the comic books. I had a vague sense as to what it was all supposed to be about prior to watching, and was entertained for 2 hours. Nothing more, nothing less. It likely would have already been forgotten if not for all of the clearance action figures I see at Target.

Just caught this. Wow, what a spectacular disaster. I think they dropped the ball at almost every opportunity. Awful, awful, awful.
At least Blake Lively looked great.

I didn't hate this movie but it really fell far below where it should have been. Had the whole movie been on Oa and focused on outer space adventures, it would have been near perfect.
