Just got back from this one. It was alright...nothing spectacular. If they do a sequel, I'd definitely like to see more of the other Lanterns.

That... was better than the entire movie. Many times over. Sort of cathartic, actually.

I'm a big fan of GL still have the comics I bought as a kid. They had to wake me up 3 times to tell me the movie was over. The issue with me had to with...You know I have no clue. I have never had a movie put me to sleep before. The only good thing about this is I did not have to pay to see it and the 3rd time they said go see Super 8. Yup.

Re: Green Lantern (Campbell, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

It was okay but everything about it felt rushed.

The training of Hal on Oa for example. Coudn't they have used a cinematic technique to imply the passing of weeks or months? Like a montage or maybe something more original?

Even the ending credit scene seemed rushed. Sinestro has been shown that the yellow power is indeed weaker than will power. But he still puts on the yellow ring.

The Oan's are barely shown and come across as some weirdo's perched on giant pedestals. I imagined they were going to be more like a bunch of Yoda's and somewhat more accessible or talkative.

The constructs came across as silly for the most part. Instead of that big race car and track couldn't he have just stopped it with a big hand or energy ball or something? It seemed more dangerous to have it racing around.

Hal was pretty uninteresting too.

That's what I thought about Avatar. At least this was fun.

Yea, I liked this better than Avatar but that's not saying much. It just seemed like a thrown together movie. More a series of scenes than a completed whole. Too bad because it may have been pretty good. The romance part brought the whole thing to a halt every time and she was not good. Good looking failure.

Based on the majority of opinions here, I wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was very entertaining. I thought Reynolds did a good job and all the pieces I look for in a superhero movie were there. My only disappointment was the CGI action sequences looked a little cheesy.

Mark Strong IS Sinestro. That said, everyone should be recast in a REBOOT except Strong as Sinestro and Geoff Rush as Tomar Re.

Saw it again today, and ended up liking it a lot more for what it is, rather than my hyped expectations.

I'll join the minority and admit that I liked this movie too. Sure it had it's weak spots but I thought it was pretty fun.

Green Lantern isn't a great movie, but it doesn't suck, either. It's a fairly entertaining movie with some good effects (well, they look good in the 2D version, anyway).

I hope they do make a sequel. GL VS Sinestro could be really cool. And it should be a more focused movie, too.

The SFX were sub par quality. Again...I can't strain enough of the lack of quality that Sony Imageworks does. Something is always off, physics alone on the earth scenes were pretty bad.

saw it today, I was the only one in the theater but it was 11am afterall
kind of cool having the big screen all to myself

overall I liked it. DC needs to start linking their movies like Marvel is doing
wonder if having Waller in it is a step in that direction since that role could have been any no name character just as easily

GL may be so so, but Blake Lively has a smokin chest and body.

Re: Green Lantern (Campbell, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Finally watched this today before it left theaters. I don't think the movie was terrible, but it was rather boring. I think they jammed too much in the movie too, especially Parallax. I didn't have a problem with Reynolds, and I would have been happier if the movie focused on him becoming a hero rather then throw out a threat like that in there like other's have said. Hammond was just boring and awkward, and fighting a giant blob cloud wasn't particularly interesting to me.

I like a lot of mediocre comic book movies (Fantastic Four, Daredevil), but this sits right below those. Although not as bad as Ghost Rider.

Re: Green Lantern (Campbell, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

I also saw this a week ago. I didn't think it was that bad. Ryan Reynolds was funny and charismastic as Jordan. My issue was that the villains were rather weak. Sarsgaard wasn't a particularly compelling villain (okay he had a really big head so what?) and I wasn't really thrilled that the main threat was a giant Blob.

Personally I would have rather made the villains/threats more real world than cartoonish like this.

Also, I agree with funmanstan, I would have rather seen a little more development on Jordan becoming a Hero. Everything seemed a little rushed.

I was a little confused with Sinestro. From watching the Green Lantern character on the old Superfriends cartoons, I always thought he was an enemy/nemesis to Green Lantern. So I assume he's supposed to turn bad if there is a sequel?

Yes. Agree. I thought the earth scenes were even better than Thor's earth scenes.

Wow, GL has tanked at the box office. One month in, and not even 150 million worldwide. Seems like it may not even break Daredevil's BO take (179M)

Its easily just as bad as, if not worse than, Revenge of the Fallen and Tron Legacy

admitting to even passively enjoying this filth should be grounds for deportation...off world
