Really enjoyed it, easily my favorite of the X-Men franchise. More exciting than Singer's versions and light years smarter than Ratner's. Knows how to use adventure and when to bring out its sense of humor.
Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence is smoking as Mystique.

The first film is great- and without it providing the thankless exposition and insight into character motivations and relationships, X2 would not be anywhere near the film most people consider it to be.

Anyone else shocked at Fox allowing a film to not only be more than 2 hours long, but a full 130 minutes?
I seriously cant remember tha last summer blockbuster from Fox this long since X2.

Nope, just talking about actors and actresses' previous works and barely talking about the movie being reviewed seems to defeat the point of reviewing a movie.
Not to mention his opinions have gradually been going down the shitter, but that's another topic.

never thought about it...but yeah..you're right. I could've been much tighter there at the end. I am a fan of the Wolverine vs. Deathstrike fight cinematography..also bits and pieces in other parts at the Dam but overall..it gets kind of cheesey and rolling eyesy.

Maybe Eburt's gotta realize that maybe this movie and movies like this (Thor) which he hated apparently from reading his x-men review. Just aren't meant for him. I know EVERYONE's got bias. But personally I say if a person who reviews a movie that you think generally isn't the target audience, then seek reviewers you tend to have simular tastes with and see what they have to say about it.

From the first trailer, I would have said the 'target audience' for this would have been just about anyone who dug seeing strong conflicts between intelligent characters, essayed by what appear to be charismatic leads, amidst a unique backdrop.
87% at RT is very good, but not quite as bombastic as it looked like it may have been earlier.
Still was able to maintain an edge with the general critics, unlike Thor was able to. But I'm surprised to see as many 'meh' reviews coming out as there are amongst more general reviewers. I thought the Variety and Hollywood Reporter ones were pointing to a unanimous verdict.

Why are people so insecure with their own opinions that they lose their shit when someone offers up a differing one?

His tone is pretty neutral on this one from what I can tell. He thought it was reasonably well put together but nothing exceptional with some occasional cheese. Considering he's seen pretty much every super hero movie there is to see as part of his job, it's got to be tiresome (I haven't seen them all and I'm getting sick of the genre). He does bemoan that quality actors are only seen as "viable stars" in Hollywood after doing a movie like this, but it doesn't seem to effect the rest of the review.
As a movie it sounds better than Last Stand and Wolverine, but not up to par with X2 which was also not overly exceptional but easily the best in this series.

I agree with most of those though I didn't care for the Hellboy movies so much, especially #2.
