Finally got around to seeing this yesterday after avoiding most of the trailers and such. It was a decent film, but a totally impersonal one from Vaughn. X-Men 1 and 2 used the mutants and their plight as an allegory for homosexuals in today's society (courtesy of Mr. Singer), X3 was just a loud action mess, and this one seemed to just go all over the place as if Vaughn had a checklist of "messages" sitting next to him as he directed. It was at times a bit to overdone ("Never again!") and a little jarring..."We will not be enslaved." Cut to close-up of black mutant.

Well, civil rights was certainly the issue of that time. I never saw the homosexual correlation from the first two.

I liked the movie but it was choppy and the ending dragged on.

3/5 from me as well.

finally saw it a couple weeks back. Very satisfied with it- with the exception of J Jones. Even with the abbreviated cameo nature of the Frost character, a better cast actress could have made that small part a real attention grabber. Fortunately the rest of the film was strong enough to negate the vacuum she creates on screen.

Up till now, the strongest X-men film for me- the one that best balanced character and plot- has been the first. FC has probably edged that out now. I'll have to see how it holds up on subsequent viewings to be sure.

The only part I found disappointing was the need to get the characters into their iconic adversarial positions by the end of the film. Wasn't necessary at all, and it doesn't leave any potential sequels any room to grow as far as conflict. Bad call.
