No matter what, this film was TONS better than Green Lantern. It had a maturity level that GL never even tried to get to.

and a much better CGI design studio over....Sony Imageworks, I fucking hate that studio..subpar quality is the norm for them.

X-MEN: FC wiped the floor with GL so bad, it wasn't even REMOTELY close.
It's almost like the entire creative team behind GL gave up the day before production... but they already cashed their checks.

What's funny about GL is that there were so many ads for it - by far the most of the summer movies, while X-Men FC hardly had any ads. Even today I saw an ad for GL when I was watching SYFY.

I saw this last month (didn't get a chance to comment in the review thread) I thought it was fantastic. Probably the best X-Men movie since part 2. I thought the idea of doing a re-boot and making it take place in the 1960's was brilliant.
Loved the cameos by:
As this story suggests, I would love to see a sequel taking place during the late 60's-70's in the Vietnam War era:

And yes, I waited through the credits for a bonus and unfortunately there was nothing.

Sequel talks have begun...
X-Men: First Class: Fox ‘Discussing Sequels Internally’
Glad to read about that. The film has earned $139.4 million in the US and worldwide total is now $335 million. Not too bad considering it had to follow Wolverine and the film lacks star power. Looks like it's made enough for them to start the thinking sequel.

It's still possible to do X-Men Origins: Dazzler, an action musical scored by Giorgio Moroder and animation from Don Bluth! Too bad though that they used Shaw already and Jones killed the White Queen character.

The theater employee who stuck his head in to tell us there was no after credits scene saved a few minutes of my life. Great movie, glad to hear the talk of a sequel.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011) The Reviews Thread
Finally got around to seeing this yesterday after avoiding most of the trailers and such. It was a decent film, but a totally impersonal one from Vaughn. X-Men 1 and 2 used the mutants and their plight as an allegory for homosexuals in today's society (courtesy of Mr. Singer), X3 was just a loud action mess, and this one seemed to just go all over the place as if Vaughn had a checklist of "messages" sitting next to him as he directed. It was at times a bit to overdone ("Never again!") and a little jarring..."We will not be enslaved." Cut to close-up of black mutant. I found that to be unintentionally funny, even if the character saying it was indeed trying to manipulate the black mutant by saying it, the director didn't need to underscore it so obviously.
Normal comic book geek annoyances about them jumbling story elements and all that aside, I enjoyed the film. The Professor X and Magneto relationship was captured very well and if anything I would have enjoyed more of that and less of the "kids." Action scenes were not too over the top and a couple of cameos got a chuckle out of me.
The acting made this better than the average comic book fare, but the impersonal direction knocked it down a bit for me.
Also, the theater cleared out right as the credits began so, I turned on my cell and googled if there was a scene after the credits...saved me a few minutes.

I keep telling my wife every movie this summer has after credit sequences, all with Samuel L. Jackson. And yes, we stayed after X-Men. NO Sam. Dammit.

Vietnam was just a clusterfucked quagmire...so I'd be curious to see how they play the whole mutant involvement angle with one side not actually "winning."
Maybe they'll just put mutants in dramatized history...like Forrest Gump w/Cyclops or Braveheart w/Wolverine...Man in the Iron Mask w/Gambit?

I don't want each movie to revolve around a specific historical event either, but placing them in the context of the times - especially the civil rights movement - would add some richness to the movies like we saw in the first two.

I was out of town for six weeks out of eight this summer and I finally got the chance to see this tonight (at the 9:00pm show, the only show of the day at the theater and on the last night it was playing).
Really dug it. Minor quibbles I can mull over on DVD or blu-ray later and for now I'll just enjoy what was a really fun ride.
