Weekend Box Office (5/13/11 - 5/15/11) - Thor #1, Bridesmaids delivers a strong #2

Didn't see a thread soooo... Yeah basically Thor had a good hold (< 50%) and Bridesmaids did very well not only outdoing predictions but it's also nearly $2m above yesterdays estimates as well. Priest is expected to do well overseas.

Thor has already outgrossed all of Kenneth Branagh's previous directing efforts combined

Such a sad statement, but not surprising.

Well, at least there's the hope that they get ported to blu-ray with some features. I'd love to get a Dead Again release.

Amazing drop for Rio and good one for Fast Five which is moving towards $200 million now.

Fast Five is looking to outgross Thor... who could've predicted THAT?

Most people, probably. A well reviewed sequel to a famous franchise vs. a less known comic book hero with a so-so borderline cheesy trailer.

yeah, crazy. Fast Five's opening was 20 million more than Thor's. Big difference for sure.

The thread title should have been: Priest didn't have a prayer.

That would mean Priest is worth mentioning, it isn't.

Yeah, I don't think that's much of a surprise.

To Monday Morning quarterbacks? Maybe. But earlier this year people were singing a much different story ("THOR! 350 million domestic!!!")

Yikes! I didn't follow that thread. Were people actually predicting "Thor" to do 350M in the U.S.!? I would have said 150-175M.

I don't recall a large amount of people predicting that kind of take for Thor either, especially nowhere near making Iron Man kind of money. Looking at this thread, the expectations for Thor weren't particularly high. The $150-200 million range seemed common.

Looks like you were one of the people predicting a bigger take

Priest made $15 million and more than $5200 per screen. That's a heck of a lot better than I thought it would do.

Everthing Must Go looks like another dreary Will Ferrell shitfest.

Definitely want to see Bridesmaids.

I wasn't around to post this up over the weekend... Good hold for THOR, but I was hoping it'd be closer to $40m.

PRIEST actually did better than I thought it would.

I stilll don't want to see BRIDESMAIDS, but that's a very solid opening.

Looks like BRIDESMAIDS topped THOR today, $2.9 to $2.8 mil.

I imagine...a lot of people, actually. Fast Five was certainly expected to open bigger than Thor.

Those people were insane! I don't think it's a Monday morning quarterback thing...Fast Five wasn't exactly expected to do poorly...in fact, I'd say more than not it was expected to do at least as well as the last film did. And I certainly didn't think Thor was a shoe-in for $200M.
