It's still a good opening, but far from the $41m Perry's last fat suit film collected on opening weekend. I'm only gonna hate on him because I can't stand seeing all the ads and posters for his films, but the man does largely succeed every time.

Nice hold once again for Insidious. I can't believe it's going to outgross Scream 4.

this doesn't bode well for horror fans...expect lots of PG-13 horror films in the near future

You mean, like in the past 10 years?

I didn't care much for Scream 4, but I kind of wanted it to do very well just so studios can see R rated horror movies still have an audience.

Unfortunately, we've been living in that future for a while now. When was the last R-rated horror hit? PA2? Studios will keep putting out PG-13 and then releasing Unrated Blu-rays. It's a sad fact.

Has to be an error. They had to have meant Estimated Cume.

Saw "Water for Elephants" and enjoyed it a great deal (8/10 rating from me).
And "The Lincoln Lawyer" (9/10)

God, this year's box office is a fucking disaster.

Last year at this time, we had...

Alice in Wonderland already at $327 million.
How To Train Your Dragon already at $178 million.
Clash of the Titans already at $146 million.
Shutter Island already at $126 million.

This year?

Rango with $120 million.
Just Go With It already capped at $102 million.
Hop at $100 million and counting.

The only film out that hasn't crossed $100 million, but will, is Rio.

I'm curious to see how Fast Five does next weekend, especially with it doing triple the business than that of the previous entry overseas (and kicking Thor's ass in Australia).

Looks like the music industry isn't the only thing that is dead.

There are some good films still being made today, but regrettably, the American audience doesn't want to see them.

The studios and the movie-going audience work hand in hand.

Many of us over 40 grew up watching movies that were made when we were not even born. Today's generation just watches comic book and remakes of horror movies from the past.
Since the internet began in the mid 1990's I remember many not wanting to sit through a black & white movie no matter how good everybody said it was.
Today movie goers will sit through a teal & yellow bad movie.
That's where we are at.
