I went to the AMC in Georgetown and had the same problem, the top right corner was cut off. I walked up to the back of the theater to see the projection, and it looked like it was framed a bit to the right...surprising that it is the same issue, possibly nationwide? Maybe they are "set" for 1.78, so it cuts off that 4% of the screen? I dunno...

One of the good audience laughter moments was when Travis bought all of the snacks at the movie theater and the total was $1.85.

Same deal at the AMC in Boston. The theater was absolutely packed, which was a pleasant surprise. The film looked and sounded fantastic. A few people laughed in the wrong places, but that's to be expected with a modern audience.

Mine was framed accurately. Looked and sounded great. No talkers, either, except for 3 theater hopping girls who ducked in during the last 20 minutes and were easily drowned out by the movie. I was the only one who knew about the mini-posters, but it only took about 5 minutes for the dude to find them. Nothing special, but nice to have.

Somehow "Taxi Driver" doesn't scream out as a date movie.

I didn't end up going. Probably going to go solo on Tuesday.

Went to this last night. Great video and audio. It's been years since i last saw Taxi Driver so a lot of stuff felt fresh. i  at the movie theater scene when all the snacks and beverage Travis gets costs under $2. Times have certainly changed.

Yeah, he buys five candy bars, a box of popcorn and a soda and it adds up to $1.85. That seems low even for 1976. I remember finding concession prices high back then and I would always bring food in from outside. If I could have gotten that much for $1.85 in 1976, I wouldn't have bothered sneaking in food. My guess is that Schrader put that in the script, recalling prices from an earlier time, and no one bothered to check then-current concession stand prices before shooting that scene.

I expected a bigger laugh at that line when I saw it on Friday night, but the chuckles were slow in coming, as if people were having trouble doing the math.

I love how you guys all know what the porn theater candy prices were in the '70s. ;)

Saw this last night in Phoenix.

Film looked and sounded amazing. The songs used in the film (and Hermann's soundtrack) seemed as if they were brand new recordings.

The audience was ok. Laughed at the coffee/pie scene, DeNiro's 'You talkin' to me' bit and the Secret Service interaction.
Everyone got quiet towards the end. There was a bit of laughter when the dude got his fingers shot off.

For the poster who asked what new viewers thought, I first saw this in 97' or so on VHS, but here were my thoughts (most likely).

What are your thoughts? It was an extremely well made film about the mental deterioration of a very lonely (and mentally ill) man.

What shocked you? (If anything) The ending suicide try and subsequent bloody finger mimicking a self inflicted gun shot.

What made you laugh? Travis' interactions with Betsy at the coffee shop, the kung fu stance on Albert Brooks character.

What did you find realistic? The slow descent into madness that Travis undergoes. It really started going downhill after Betsy turned him down.

What did you find particularly unbelievable? Candy prices and that they even sold candy in porn theaters.

What did you learn from it? There are mentally unbalanced people all around us, and most of us never take the time to see to it that they are taken care of, even if we notice they are off.
