I agree with the summary above, we enjoyed it. Quite a bit... not enough that I'm considering purchasing the bluray, but I did like the movie for what it was.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see the Ronin take down
Spoiler:
the giant metal samurai... the blast that did seemed like a cheap shot.

I'd recommend a matinee if anything. You might like it... if you're like me and not super critical of movies.

Grade: B-

Personally, I didn't mind it, because
Spoiler:
there was no way he was getting taken down in hand-to-hand combat.

Yes. Commercials and videos. And an RSA guy (Ridley Scott's company). Was originally going to direct the Alien prequel/Prometheus.

Bummer to hear that this isn't exciting people too much. Will have to see it this weekend.

Why did Scott take that on himself? Was he originally simply going to produce it as a work for hire project for another director?

Re: 47 Ronin (2013, Reeves)

Saw it today and enjoyed it. It was everything I expected it to be and more. Some parts 13 Assassins, with 300 and Spirited Away/Ninja Wars thrown into it. Not sure why it's getting crapped on when there have been a number of other films that were far worse. Keanu wasn't annoying and the performances by Sanada and Rinko were fine. And I thought the effects were rather well done, more so than Pacific Rim. I will probably try to see it again in 3D.

Re: 47 Ronin (2013, Reeves)

I saw it and absolutely loved it. The girlfriend also enjoyed it.

I don't really have any complaints, other than the freaky tattooed pirate had no real purpose. That was a waste of good character design.

Yeah, he's even in the trailer shooting his guns and jumping around, etc. I'm hoping that there will be an Unrated or Extended version on Blu-ray.

The director is his son in law, I think. Probably wanted to give him a chance.

Re: 47 Ronin (2013, Reeves)

Judging from the trailers I honestly thought this was a $30 million project at most. Wow, I think I'll buy a ticket just to help them out at this point, but the actual budget certainly didn't show in the promotional material. Not a judgment on the quality since I'm a fan of Keanu when most are not but damn.

My sister saw KR in New York a couple of weeks ago. She said he was walking round in a daze muttering to himself. Either in character or perhaps looking for an exit

Re: 47 Ronin (2013, Reeves)

Funny enough, one guy in IMDB said he saw it with his Japanese wife and she complained it's too Hollywood. This amuses me since it looks like the exact kind of movie I would expect to come out of Japan only with really shitty CGI instead.

This looks like my kind of zany (I absolutely loved The Warrior's Way) and am a fan of Hiroyuki Sanada and Keanu Reeves so I'll be checking it out.

I didn't really dig it the last time I saw that film. Visually it was awesome but I remember being bored by it.

They've been writing the losses off in every quarter for more than a year now. It's called creative accounting. They're no longer in the red.
