Is that tattooed guy even an actor? I remember seeing him on a show about tattoos because he looks like Skeletor's cousin, but I didn't know he was an actor.

This looks like it could be decent, maybe even good, but it'll likely be a bloated, CGI-reliant, cliche-heavy bomb.

It looks more like 2 Ronin & 45 Background Extras but otherwise fun.

Re: 47 Ronin

Visually impressive imagery but I can see it easily falling into the films that are all very neat sets, camerawork, and CGI imagery. Very boring plot. I like how purdy it was aside from that brute fighting Reeves in that trailer.

Looks like Keanu's acting chops have gotten better.

Re: 47 Ronin

Okay, so, judging from that trailer, I'm assuming this is not a historical drama at all, but a CGI fantasy with absolutely no connection to the actual famous story of the 47 Ronin, which took place at a time when absolutely no one in Japan spoke English. (There were a handful who spoke Dutch, though.)

Re: 47 Ronin

Hate to say it, but this looks awful and the CGI looks like garbage. A shame, since I usually like Keanu.

I'm not so sure on that. William Adams was there, he originally worked for the DEIC. Got married to a Japanese woman there, had two 2 kids with her there. Called Joseph and Susanna. Before the 47 Ronin event happened.

Adams had an interesting life. Even got a Samurai title.

Looks fun to me. More so than Man of Tai Chi.

They probably gave him some work because he looked cool, which he does. I don't think you need that much acting skills these days to be place in a silly action movie. lol

Anyways in regards to this trailer it's too much CGI crap. I'm getting tired of so much CGI clutter shit mania on screen these days.

There is something about Keanu that is so off putting in that trailer and Man of Tai Chi. I don't like his "puzzled" characters.

This movie screams rental. I did enjoy the first half of the music in this trailer.

I read the book on Samurai William. That was one or two centuries before the 47 Ronin. The first Tokugawa Shogun kicked out all westerners and all Christian missionaries in the early 1600s and crushed Japanese Christianity, executing the most defiant of them. By the time of the 47 Ronin, there wouldn't have been anyone left who spoke English. When Commodore Perry showed up 150 years after that (160 years ago this month), he had to have a Dutch speaker on hand in order to communicate with a Dutch-speaking Japanese who would then translate into Japanese for the Shogun's representative. (There was a fisherman named Manjiro who had been shipwrecked in Hawaii and taken to Massachusets and learned English and got an education and returned to Japan. He could have translated for Commodore Perry when he showed up, but the Japanese authorities kept Manjiro away, fearing he might be a spy for the Americans.)

Re: 47 Ronin

Looking forward to this, especially for how cheap looking and campy most Japanese movies of this nature are. Yeah, I love crap like Ninja Wars, but hopefully this bumps up the quality a lot over those films.

Re: 47 Ronin

I'm looking forward to this as well. And agree that an equivalent movie made in Japan would look cheesy as hell (and be filled with the shittiest CGI ever). And it doesn't hurt to have Rinko Kikuchi as the hotty villainess.

Re: 47 Ronin

I'm happy to give this movie a shot. But I don't see much buzz surrounding it. This could go either way at the box office.

Re: 47 Ronin

Considering the weak debut this thing just had in Japan, I only see it going one way: down, far. And hard. And fast.

Re: 47 Ronin

That trailer makes it look like swords and sorcery in medieval Japan. That would go down about as well as Paul Revere and John Adams fighting warlocks would go down here. Starring a Japanese actor.

Apparently Kurosawa liked The Magnificent Seven. And if they didn't like the 1998 Godzilla, can't say as I blame them.
