Anyone know about Black Death?
Just saw this announced on Bluray.com. Although I know nothing about the movie. Something about some brothers sent to defeat a necromancer, but that's all that I know. Anyone see this?

But I still found it pretty cool. I didn't see any previews of it before I saw it so I wasn't really thinking of that. |
Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
It's much better than 'Centurion' that's for sure

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
The DVD Talk review was pretty glowing for the movie itself.

It's been a long time since I watched it, but I remember thinking it was flawed but decent.
Worth watching but nothing to write home about. |

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
I know nothing about it except that Bisley did a badass poster for it.

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
I know it happens early in most action films.

^ That, plus the OP's description about "brothers" sent to defeat a necromancer, made me laugh.

What is the first boxer Tommy Riley beat in Gladiator?

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
Pretty intense so far.

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
I thought it was fairly well made and I liked the bit at the end with the monk. Something things I do wish were made more discrete to keep the mystery going but it was nothing that failed the film.
I did notice that the score had the same basic melody as another film, I believe the track "Death is the road to awe" from The Fountain. |
Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
Pretty good movie. If you liked the recent Centurion, Valhalla Rising, and Solomon Kane you'll like Black Death. It's a mix of all those. I was surprised that it ended up being less about the bubonic plague and had more of a christian v atheist theme.
Anyway good acting, Sean Bean is an underrated actor. Shame he doesn't get bigger roles. Well paced, good action scenes as well. I'll probably end up picking it up one day on BD. |
Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
I liked it more than both Centurion and Valhalla Rising (haven't seen Solomon Kane). It felt like two movies in one. It starts out as a "Men on a Mission" movie and then transforms into a horror film. Very reminiscent of The Wicker Man. I could have done without the last 10 minutes though.

Hopefully my copy will be here by tomorrow or the next day at the least.

Re: Anyone know about Black Death?
I watched this over the weekend and loved it. I almost wish my friend who highly recommended it hadn't told me it was like a medieval version of "The Wicker Man" because I wouldn't have guessed the direction they were taking things. I loved the cinematography, especially all the scenes in the marsh. The casting was great - loved the supporting role with David Warner, and Sean Bean was excellent as usual. The brutality was appropriate, nothing too over-the-top gory, but enough to make me wince at a couple kills. Certainly a refreshing genre film to enjoy these days.
