"True Confessions" - 1981 film with DeNiro and Duvall - underestimated
I saw this film in its entirety for the first time last night, and even though it doesn't necessarily have the kind of bravada performance people are used to by Robert DeNiro, it is a nice understated performance by him. Robert Duvall, however, is electrifying in his role as the brother of DeNiro. Duvall's performance as the L.A. cop is almost Oscar-caliber, and Duvall is worth every penny in this film, between the looks he gives alone. A superb actor, and the little scene-stealer here.
Charles Durning is great, as well, playing the dastardly guy he perfected in "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" and "The Muppet Movie." Duvall's partner is also great (don't recall his name, but he sure has some bushy eyebrows).
For years growing up, I always thought I recalled a film with Duvall and DeNro as brothers, but until the internet came into being, I never recalled this film. I must have seen it on TV as a kid, but was too young to remember too much about it.

I really enjoyed watching this flick; great post-WWII LA film and I loved that it pulled no punches in regards to the crimes. Great ending as well.
