I love Kubrick, but I always thought his penchant for excessive takes was an obsessive-compulsive thing, rather than a visionary director thing.
But then again, who's to say those things don't go hand in hand.

I thought I remember hearing that Kubrick made Cruise do 100 takes where he walked through a door on Eyes Wide Shut.
So we can all agree that Chaplin, Kubrick and Fincher are the winners? And they are some of the best directors that cinema has ever seen? In my opinion.
