2011 AMC Best Picture Showcase
Anyone doing the 2 day event? Or even trying the 24 hour marathon?
http://www.amctheatres.com/bps/
I'm thinking of doing it up in Seattle, glad we don't have the 24 hour one up here..I might just be crazy enough to do it.

Every year, AMC hosts the Best Picture Showcase, showing all of the Best Picture nominees in one day so that film fans can get a refresher before the Academy Awards. As this is the second year that we have 10 Best Pictures nominees, AMC is splitting the complete showcase into two days - the first on Saturday, February 19th, the second on Saturday, February 26th, the day before the Oscars on February 27th. However, this year they're also doing a 24-hour marathon showing all 10 movies in a row from 10AM to 10AM the next day (Oscar Sunday). Dress comfortably and brace yourself to watch all 10 Best Picture Nominees back-to-back.
You can find a complete theater listing of AMC Theatres around the US hosting the showcase (but there will be only 15 of them doing the 24-hour marathon) as well as pricing and schedules for all of the different days on their official website. It costs $60 for a Two-Day Pass, but you get a $20 in AMC Gift Card with it (for use on concessions). You can also spend $35 for the One-Day Pass and a $10 gift card. To participate in the grueling 24-hour marathon, the cost is $50 for the full pass and you get a $20 gift card as well. Pretty good deal for any of the days if you want to see all of the Best Picture noms. Here are the schedules for each day:
Saturday, February 19
11:00 AM - Toy Story 3 (103 min)
1:00 PM - 127 Hours (95 min)
3:00 PM - The Kids Are All Right (106 min)
5:45 PM - True Grit (110 min)
7:45 PM - The Fighter (116 min)
Saturday, February 26
11:00 AM - Winter's Bone (100 min)
1:00 PM - Black Swan (109 min)
3:10 PM - Inception (148 min)
6:45 PM - The Social Network (121 min)
9:00 PM - The King's Speech (119 min)
24-Hour Marathon - Saturday, February 26
10:00 AM - Toy Story 3 (103 min)
12:00 PM - 127 Hours (95 min)
2:00 PM - The Kids Are All Right (106 min)
4:15 PM - True Grit (110 min)
7:15 PM - The Fighter (116 min)
9:45 PM - Winter's Bone (100 min)
11:45 PM - Black Swan (109 min)
2:00 AM - Inception (148 min)
4:45 AM - The Social Network (121 min)
7:05 AM - The King's Speech (119 min)

I think this is the first year in a long time where I saw all the nominees before they were nominees.

I've only seen 2 of the movies, so it might be worthwhile for myself, seems like many of this years movies were a little more mainstream.

I attended the two day affair last year, was pretty fun. Fell asleep during Avatar though, it was my 3 viewing. They had trivia and prizes between the movies. This year the same theater is switching to the 24hr format and I am going to give it a go. I have seen half of the movies so it will be interesting to see the rest. I am sure that things will get weird trying to wrap my head around INCEPTION at two in the morning.

Re: 2011 AMC Best Picture Showcase
TOY STORY 3 at 11AM on a Saturday...I wonder how quickly it will sell out. If I had any wherewithal, I'd order a ticket now, but what if I don't feel like traipsing into Manhattan that early this Saturday? The ticket will go to naught. And if, at 9:30AM on Sat., the time I would need to leave in order to get there on time, I do feel like it, will I get there and find it sold out? I hate being put in these positions. And I hate having to buy tickets for anything in advance. I don't know how many times I've had to purchase tickets in advance for something (e.g. The New York Film Festival) and then either forgotten all about it or decided not to go at the last minute.
Heck, I'll just borrow my daughter's DVD of it. People keep telling me how great it is, so I'd rather see it on the big screen, though.

The marathon isn't playing here but the 2-day event is. Sorta sucks the way they scheduled the movies because out of each 5-movie day, I've seen 2. I think I will skip this time. Cool idea. Maybe next year.

Just checked the 24hr event was only offered in NY, LA, Chicago, Toronto and Washington D.C.
Currently they are offering it in 15 theaters in 13 cities. Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, LA (2), Minneapolis, New York (2), Phoenix, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

Re: 2011 AMC Best Picture Showcase
For those like myself who don't live near an ACM theater, Cinemark is offering a "Best Picture & Best Director" showcase of the five movies up for both categories. It's $25 for the five movies, on Saturday the 26th. You can see the list of participating locations here. The Fighter is the only one of the five I haven't seen yet, so I won't be attending but it's nice to know for next year to keep this in mind.

I went to one near me yesterday, and it wasn't a bad experience. Most brought pillow, and people were freely bringing in food from the outside. The trivia was lame, the winners got posters that they wound up giving us as we left anyway.

Going to the 24hr tomorrow. Really looking forward to finally seeing Winter's Bone, Black Swan, The King's Speech, and the Fighter. Not sure how I am going to last the full 24hrs, but I will find out shortly.
