L'illusionniste aka The Illusionist(Chomet, 2010) Jacques Tati screenplay

This is a brilliant animated film. Didn't see a thread here about it so I'm making one to give a heads up on this to anyone who cares. Amazon is taking pre-orders on their website now for the Blu.

A touching and meaningful screenplay written by Tati about him and his abandoned daughter's relationship(or lack of), and his own ideas on/about his work. There's a lot here if you're paying attention. This is nominated for the Best Animated Film Oscar this year, and quite a few other awards, and deservedly so.

Roger Ebert's 4 star review: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...ments/link.gif

There has been some controversy about the film because the director, Chomet, decided to try and portray the film as being about Tati's 'legitimate' daughter, but it was not. Tati had a daughter he abandoned and it's pretty clear it's about her. Roger Ebert put a letter from a member of the family on his website regarding this, but it is filled with spoilers so be aware of that before clicking if you haven't seen it:

Check it out if you get the chance, it's excellent. Just a fantastic work. I was superficially aware of Tati's life and daughters before seeing it, so, because of that, maybe I got a little more out of it in spite of Chomet's intentions.

The trailer is misleading, as they quite often are.

I know it's pretty much impossible at this point, but I really wish this would win over Toy Story 3 for Best Animated.

But since TS3 was nominated for Best Pic as well as Best Animated it's sort of a give me.

I loved this movie, although the young teenager in front of me, kind of didn't get it.

The allusion ( ;) ) to

Spoiler:
'Mon Oncle' in the movie theatre - is a fun tongue in cheek Tati reference

Dr. Mabuse pays more in taxes than those threads will have replies this year!
