Ain't no doubt about it, Sandler puts asses in seats. And Bieber, love him or hate him, is a goddamn phenomenon. He seems to have a strong management team.

I was mildy interested because I thought Last King of Scotland and State of Play were reasonably well made, but after seeing the ads I really have no interest in The Eagle either.
Apparently if it's a period epic and doesn't have Ridley Scott's name attached, it's a bomb.

I just watched Centurion, which was decent if not great, so not really interested in seeing The Eagle tell the same story.

Not really. Bieber's film is likely to be front-loaded since his fans will rush to see it opening day. Sandler's has the benefit of playing to a Valentine's Day crowd, so it'll have lower drops throughout the weekend.

Not to stand up for Bieber but considering a lot of his fans are 12 or under, it seems Saturday & Sunday would be a boost since that's when they're off school & can see it. I'd think many parents don't want to take them on Friday since those would tend to be night showings.

To give you an idea how much I can't stand Sandler, I'm hoping that Bieber is #1 for the weekend.

As much as you hate Sandler, these constant ads for the Bieber movie as "Follow your dreams!" bullshit (he was discovered on YouTube when he was like 13 years old, what the fuck kind of follow your dreams shit is that?) make me hope the movie's numbers got reversed with The Eagle's.
Goddamn do I hate those ads.

^ Same with The Kings Speech -- impressive all-around The leading contenders for Best Picture are all taking in a healthy B.O. this year (atypical).

I think the Bieber movie would have done better had the Grammy's not been on Sunday and most of his fans would be watching him live to see him win anything.

Black Swan broke $100m yesterday.
Honestly did not see that coming when it was initially released.
So this R-rated, oscar-nominated psychosexual ballerina horror movie has outgrossed (2010 domestic):
Date Night, Sex and the City 2, The Book of Eli, Unstoppable, The Town, Prince of Persia, RED, Percy Jackson, Eat Pray Love, Yogi Bear, The Tourist, The A-Team....actually easier to just say all but 27 movies... pretty impressive.
