Vague "What's that movie" help please

I cant remember the beginning (or middle), but most of the last 30 minutes or so had the two main characters stuck under a rock or something. I think they were in a cave...or a collapsed building...something. Anyways, one guy is an older, nice man with much to live for. The other is a young jerkoff who people don't like. The rescue crew are trying to get them out, but turns out that in order to remove the boulder/debris, one of them has to die. The jerkoff volunteers and films a sad "I'm sorry for the people I've hurt" kind of thing. People feel sad. Then the rock shifts, so now the jerkoff gets to live and escapes. Then the family watches the old man's video of his final words.

I'm pretty sure I didn't make this up...I'm gonna guess this was an early 90's/late 80's movie. Or hell, maybe it's a show.

Any help? Been meaning to ask this for about 8 years, but never got around to it...

-ohbfrank-

Always has to be one that thinks they are the king of comedy.

Sounded like WTC to me as well.

never saw it but i just read the wiki on WTC...and that sounds pretty close to what happens in the movie i'm thinking of, but i saw this back around 1998, and even then i remember thinking that it was definitely not a new movie.

but yeah, they were trapped, bunch of rescue crew members around them trying to figure it out, but one of them had to die. there was also a crowd outside and a bunch of reporters...

Maybe it's the original World Trade Center movie made in 1994. The Oliver Stone film was a remake.

I picture Efrem Zimbalist Jr. trapped under rubble, saying goodbye, but it's only a wisp of memory. Nothing concrete, and nothing looks familiar on his IMDB page.

well, i don't think it was a huge disaster. just 2 (maybe 3) guys stuck. Not sure about Efrem Zimbalist Jr., but he could be the older "nice" one who dies. I remember my mom was crying when the "bad" guy filmed his "i'm sorry, goodbye" redemption message...then she was bawling when the good guy ended up dying.

idk, i'm beginning to think i made this up from bits and pieces of other sappy movies/shows.

I vaguely remember what you are describing. The old guy dies and only one can be rescued. I've seen it. Couldn't find anything though. Thanks to '127 hours' skewing the hell out of the spiders searching on that topic was not helpful.

Planescape: Torment.

It had a scenario exactly like this, with two men (one more likeable than the other, one older than the other) trapped under a cart. If you didn't built your character smart enough, then you had to choose to save one and kill the other, because lifting the cart off one would crush the other to death.

Death Hunt, with Charles Bronson as the young man and Lee Marvin as the old man.

Thanks!
