Re: Why are zombies so popular nowadays?

Zombies are far more popular than they were even 8 years ago. There have been several movies, a tv show, video games. Zombie Crawls are popping up all over the place, the "impending zombie apocalypse" gets tossed around in all corners of the internet, as well as quite a few zombie mash-ups with other popular characters. It's much more pervasive than it used to be.

I don't enjoy the majority of zombie movies, but I can see why they would be popular. I just figured I was on the outside of something, similar to how I don't really like vampire movies either.

here's the thing...a lot of people love Zombies. We like the idea of having to kill these brainless fucks to survive...we like them in all media. We just don't get enough GOOD material from it.

I liked it. The cast isn't amazing, the but the idea and execution is pretty good.

I think people like the idea of hordes of Zombies in films and seeing them get dispatched in various manners. They are fun?

Also, Resident Evil movies.

Zombie movies also seem to be popular because they can now show a totally devastated world... Always looks cool.

OP said "nowadays". I don't think 10 years ago counts as such. But thanks for completely missing the point of my post.

Re: Why are zombies so popular nowadays?

I'm growing pretty tired of these zombie and vampired fads. I'm waiting for the mummy genre to catch on.
What we need is a few modern mummy teen romance flicks, then some mummy modes to popular games, and top it off with some mummification of classic literature.

That pretty much rings true and there have only been a few movies about them that would actually even be considered "hits".

As for Dead Girl, I felt dirty and ashamed after watching it...

I like the zombie craze right now. But I think I will get a bit tired of it before the end of the year.

No rape movies are not my thing. It was just sick, 2 kids see some woman strapped down nude who may or may not be dead and the first thing they can think of is to is hey lets do her... I should have just stopped watching but I wanted to see those assholes die.

I didn't miss the point, it just wasn't substantive. I didn't realize "nowadays" could ONLY apply to the time after Twilight was released. I didn't realize that 10 years is too long to be considered "nowadays" when discussing the 60 year time-span since the first major zombie movie was released. How many popular zombie movies have even been released after Twilight, if anything, the trend has slowed down. I still think you're way off, but thanks for emulating my snarky tone.
