......why the fuck would you compare two totally different films? Also...is it ok to call Schindler's List a classic? Maybe Raging Bull..I've never thought about it but...still...maybe too young?

I'd say 20 years is old enough to call something a classic. Schindler's List came out in '93. Close enough. I mean, I would consider Silence of the Lambs ('91) a classic as well.

And who says we all need to follow by what you think is classic? To me older than 2000 is classic.

When is your homework due?
Raging Bull is better, though it's hard to compare the films. Yes, they are both biographies, but one film skips around over a lifetime while the other focuses on a set few years. Liam Neeson is more restrained while Robert De Niro creates a much bigger character, even though Schindler was much less of a public or known figure than LaMotta. Both are black and white for stylistic reasons, though I think Bull's use of color 8mm home movie footage works nicer than Spielberg's hand-holding "girl in the red coat". Though one movie's hero saves hundreds of lives while the other can't even save himself, great and important deeds do not mean the film is great or important by association; Spielberg's film is a fine and well-made piece of cinema, while Scorsese's film is nothing short of a masterpiece, fueled by the electric, engrossing performance of De Niro.
Also, films have to do substantially more than age ten years to become a "classic".

Simply aging is not a good barometer of what makes a "classic". If that were the case, everything that aged would eventually qualify, which cheapens the word. Classics are works that exemplify their medium, and stand the test of time. You could safely say The Dark Knight or Schindler's List are classics; their quality is easily defensible, and their influence is still palpable. You could even say Transformers is a classic as long as you backed the statement up. But simply saying something is a classic because it's more than ten years old is just ridiculous.

Raging Bull is the better movie, but I would rather watch Schindler's List again.

Wait, what? These movies have no resemblance or common theme. Okay, I'll pick one, Schindler's List. Beautiful photography (albeit horrible subject matter), epic story, uplifting finale. Raging Bull, by contrast is ugly, nihilistic, and features an irredeemably shallow and miserable person who has all the freedom and opportunity in the world and squanders it with his nonsense. I love Scorsese, but I've only managed to get through R.B. once or twice and find it very unpleasant.

One is one of the darkest comedies ever made, and the other is one of the most overrated films ever made. I'll let you guys decide which is which.

I don't consider Schindler's List a classic. Raging Bull certainly.
Raging Bull is better though.
