This re-recording of the complete score was released back in November.
Dear God, that is awesome! Too bad Poledouris didn't live to see it.

Edit: This is the same thing on Amazon. They have the wrong cover art, showing a picture of the back of the CD apparently:

I can't even listen to that when I drive. I would get speeding tickets.

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story was a POS but the soundtrack is awesome. I remember it being played over other movie trailers and sporting event commercials on TV back in the 90's.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

Alan Silvestri composed a memorable score for Predator:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fcESzxtQfRI?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Predator 2 had some great music as well:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fTqxErnM3EQ?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Ramin Djawadi created a fantastic score for Medal Of Honor:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/F1ZFiwWNdZ0?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

Alan Silvestri is like the strongest composer out there, every single score he does is at the very least good.

If we are talking about games now, I have a couple

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

I also love Jack Wall's work on Mass Effect 2:

This piece really got my heart pumping during the climax of the game:

Hells yeah!

I'd love a BD with two lossless audio tracks. One featuring the original mono mix and another featuring a brand new 5.1 mix that would use this new score recording.

<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ykXwb2yin4A?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Oh and both cuts of the movie of course.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

I have a copy of this soundtrack, and the bass is pretty wicked, YouTube doesn't do it justice:

"Cries and Whispers" from the OLDBOY soundtrack is quite epic, but the only version is from the scene in the movie where it's used most effectively and that's a huge spoiler.

This has been a favorite of mine since I was a little tyke. I've always considered it "epic".

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

This is one that threw me - the soundstrack of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has a sountrack that IMO eclipses the LOTR trilogy. Absolutely massive soundtrack. Here's a snippet.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

I might have posted this before, but the soundtracks to Conan the Barbarian and the Deluxe one of the original Superman are so great that all I need to do is pop them in and I can actually see the movie occur by just listening.

Last of the Mohicans is also amazing.

That new Conan recording kicks ass.

Yes, Oscar Araujo is a fantastic composer. I found the whole album in FLAC. I'll check back later if I find the forum where I got it. It's a great album.

EDIT: Here it is. But you have to register to be able to download it.

That forum is the, and I mean THE MOST notorious soundtrack forum to ever exist, as it is relentlessly being attacked by the soundtrack labels for the abundance of illegal sharing there. That being said the truth is that all music and movies are shared all over the place so in the grand scheme of things it doesn't stand out. Just in the soundtrack realm does that forum have a big reputation.

The problem with this 10 minute selection is, its "backwards" in terms of how it appears in the movie. The first 5 minutes is the end of the maelstrom and the destruction of Cutler Becket's ship. The second 5 minutes begins with Sparrow trying to escape the Dutchman with the chest and then dueling with Davy Jones. Plus, this is only 1/3 of the music in this nearly 30 minute battle sequence.
